New FO3 art

Post by Ausir »

[Game -> Update]

Chris Applehans, a Black Isle artist, who had already given us the GasBot, has now put 4 new images at his website, which are probably Fallout 3 concept art:

i'm digging the last pick, the balloony men, but ... something is slightly wrong (un 50sish).

Otherwise I say,

"Denver?"

What? I think these are great! How are they Unfallouty? The guy with the powerfist looks freaking great. And that car on the pillar with the ghostly figures wearing gas masks just creeps me out.

The first and the last I like, sortov a monument to the automotive industry, is it me or do the 'balloony men' look dead?

That highway one sortov reminds me of the start of road warrior, groovy.

Definately some FO3 wallpapers coming out of this....

I think its a trashed power armor.
If I were normal I would go crazy.

That Road to Denver pick reminds me of the Highway of Death going out of Baghdad in the Gulf War...

The Wasteland pic looks pretty cool, though the right hand (the one on the left of the pic) looks a bit odd, the fingers too long or something. What is he holding there, anyways? But I like the power fist. That is pretty cool. It doesn't look like any PA I've ever seen, though, Wifi. Those hands were a bit different, like being smaller, last time I saw the FO1 intro.

Hm... I don´t know. I have mixed feelings when looking at those pics. Sure, they´re able to capture a post nuclear atmosphere, but somehow they´re also a little generic and cheesy (especially the car image and the one with the highway, which looks like a reference to "The Stand"). To make things worse, there´s absolutely no 50s theme in sight. You just don´t look at the pictures and go "Ahh, typical Fallout!", but maybe that´s just because I spent too many years jacking off to FO loading screens...

Btw, what´s wrong with the guys right hand? Is he holding a melting gas mask?

Care to elaborate how it's not Fallouty? I don't see any modern day stuff in there. Just a couple random landcapes, a deserted city, a dude wearing rusted metal things, and guys in hazmat-looking suits. Nothing high tech and no modern day stuff.

Is everyone supposed to have a big pipboy character on his back holding a sign saying "1950 R0XX0rZ!!"?

Anyway, I think it all looks pretty damn cool, regardless of what it's for.

A lot of people already said that the 50's theme is completely missing. That´s the "Unfalloutyness" of those images. I´m not chucky enough to demand PipBoys everywhere to feel like I´m at home...

As I said, they´re sure nice and professional, but their content is rather generic.

How the hell does anyone make a power armor out of those things? Dead guys inside hazmat suits is my best bet. There's even oxygen tubes going into the ceiling rail.

edit: now that I took a second look, they do seem to be in a bit too lively positions to be dead. Some sort of ghouls? They look more like pantomime zombies though.

I don't think the artwork itself is awful, but I do think it could stand to have the retro put back in retro-future. About the only thing in that wasteland guy's picture that strikes me as 50s-ish is the sneakers he's wearing and the haircut. His jeans cut are 50s-ish and the way they're rolled up is good, but that American flag-like stars patch on the side kind of stinks of Vietnam-Era hippie-wear. Hell, his shoulderpad there on that one side looks like one of the shoulderpads from the FOT PA.

I really don't like that big arm much either. Not so much the design, but the size of it. If it's a power fist, it should be big, but definitely not THAT big. The powerfist only weighs 10lbs, that thing's easily 30lbs.

Judging by Chris's sense of scale on things, I think BIS would do good for itself if they hid his anime collection until he's done making the artwork. They should replace it with some good, wholesome FLASH GORDON comics and movies like This Island Earth, Forbidden Planet, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and a half a dozen others.

Hi Everybody

These are really awesome and atmospheric pieces of artwork. (For me)there is a Falloutfeel.
God damnit look at the car, or at the last pic. That Aparatus thingy ( or whatever that may be) behind the creepy Guy in the "Baloon Suit". How it's shaped. There is definetly a retro style in here. I bet most of u people wouldn't even recognice if there's 50's style unless they are told so.

Stop whining and Enjoy !

Sorry for my rudness

Ummm.. Yeah, let's look at it. It looks more like a European mini car than it does a 1950s sedan. See, cars back in the 1950s were BIG, MONSTEROUS things. Like THIS:

Image

Image

They weren't goofy, little things designed to drive through old European cities with thin ass pathways and alleys.

Not entirely true. Ford made a lot of smaller 2-doors back then. The painting with the vehicle sitting ontop of the pillar looks a bit like a Volvo, which began exporting to the US in the 1950s.
