And ENOUGH with the crappy CGI. Did Spiderman teach us nothing?
so CGI makes or breaks a movie for you?

I actually liked the CGI in hellboy, it was really comic booky, and after reading the comicbooks I have to say they fit pretty well. Although its interesting how differant the comic is from the movie.

Yea the CG samuael(s) were awesome. The Hulk looks amazing. Spiderman taught us that you can make some great looking special effects, a fun movie and compelling look at the origin of a superhero(same with Hulk for me actually).

Golum in LotR is just fucking incredible. Go back as far as Jurassic Park and the dino's are still fucking great, and that was back in the day of infant CG.

The reasons people poo-poo CG now are so arbitrary, for the simple fact that CG has added SO much to movies and has come so far so fast with very talented people pushing it. Integration of CG into film now is near flawless, and if not for the subject material be so fantastical(Hulks, dinos and undead-gods) that we KNOW is not real, its just amazing. To say otherwise is just absurd, akin to the elitest RPG'ers that say every other game inexistence is simplistic and vapid because those games are not like the old school rpg's, hence they must suck.

Are the comics worth getting?

I don't mind cgi, so long as you can't tell it's cgi.

I actually always thought the Hellboy comics were going to suck, until I spent $60 on them yesterday, their actually really great and have a variety of characters you won't see in the movie.

um...what order should I read them in? I'd also prefer story arcs instead of shorts, so I can 'get' the character or something LOL!!!

Mabye the first tpb would be alright? Is that seed of destruction or something D:

Hulk had incredibly CG, but hte plot hardly made up for it. Their "comic book" view with different things in the differnent windows was awesome.. but horribly overused. Hulk made good smashing movie. Little else.

Thats fine, but the sub-topic here was CG, so yea, you agree that the CG was undeniably incredible(hulk).

Megatron...my guess is you'd be best to read the HB comics from start to finish, sequentially as numbered, in that order. :)

The numbers are on the side if we're talking about the big graphic novels.

Wrong. There are loads of examples of CGI done extremely well, and there are just as many where the CGI is poorly done, or obviously fake, so that it just saps the fun out of the experience. The worst is for humans and real-life animals; they look all jiggly and somehow not-right. Look at the part in Lord of the Rings where Legolas jumps on that cave monster - he looks like Stretch Armstrong getting tossed around. And....Spider-Man. Lord almighty.

I wansn't a fan of the Spider-Man CG. I loved Hulk and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, however. If only Square had a decent writing staff to match the visuals...

Maybe I wasn't paying attention when I watched it, but I never noticed the horrible horrible CGI in Spiderman.

Um, hardly "wrong" there slick, I never said there wasn't any terrible CG movies and I agree that is indeed mostly the human CG that suffers the most(which there's a good reason why but thats for another discussion). But when CG rocks, its incredible. The people I'm referring to are the ones that think ALL CG is bad, which is simply not true, and quite obnoxious of them to say the least.

is everyone blind to the fact that you can tell CGI from real shit?

i know i can and it agrivates the shit out of me when i have to watch a movie where half the shit is garbage CGI.
thats probably why i couldnt watch the 2nd and 3rd matrix. either that or the terrible plot.

anyways hellboy was pretty good. that nazi/1890s psycho knife guy was pretty l33t.

Kroenen was his name. If people really want their CGI, they should have FF10 parties. It's a giant freaking movie of crap. I'm sure CGI freaks would love it. I appreciate it if it is well done, but when you flush movies with all kinds of "CGI goodies" that just look ugly and stupid, it makes me sad. Boo-freaking-hoo.

The reason you can tell is that, as I said before, its always fantastical stuff that you already KNOW is not real, therefore you expect it to be CG(how else are they gonna show a 15 foot tall green hulk). I mean fuck, animatronics isn't REAL and yet thats just terrible to watch.

To say CG is garbage is silly, as its by far the most impressive and advanced of any of the movie magic you'll see in a film. I don't know what the heck you're watching, but you must not watch many things with any sorta of special effects in them at all, if you think the BEST we have in effects is garbage. :confused2:

Are you guys even making distinctions between GOOD CG and BAD CG??!!

I'm referring ONLY to GOOD CG...YES BAD CG IS TERRIBLE...it doesn't immediately make ALL CG bad.
