A load of Land of the Dead stuff

Post by Mr. Teatime »

[ Film & TV -> Review ] - More info on Film & TV: Land of the Dead

Land of the Dead is released this Friday in America, so go see it.
You can get a taste (ha ha) of the film from these two clips: one and two, and read another positive review on Bloody-Disgusting:

The Zombies for the
most part are classic Romero Zombies. The make-up effects are
spectacular as always and there are some amazing kills, disembowelments
and other bits of gore that are great fun. I was shocked by how much
they got away with for an obviously R rated cut, and I can’t wait to
see a directors cut of this film. One thing of note with the gore is
how it’s cut out, I’ve not seen a trimmed up gore movie in decades, so
it’s very interesting to see the harsh cuts when a gore scene has been
edited. The only thing that didn’t fit is how the lead Zombie, Eugene
Cook (Big Daddy), looked. While all the other zombies in the film have
the classic Romero look, Big Daddy did not, which is unfortunate as he
has the most screen time of the zombies. He doesn’t even really move
like a Romero Zombie, he moves like a regular person, which I guess I
can see the point as he’s the “teacher” so to speak, but it still
doesn’t really fit.

Ugh. I don't like the sound of the film being cut for cinema and then released as an unrated DVD.

Yeah it happens for just about every single movie.

R rating is really pretty tame. You've gotta do uncut, especially for a zombie movie, if you want to do it right. And theatres won't play uncut or nc-17.

Hey SuperH, I think you're a Miike fan, right?

Did you finally see Visitor Q?

No I didn't. I saw Audition most recently. No... I saw Gozu. I believe they were both his? Gozu is messed up, milk / goat / old lady fetish sort of stuff it's bizzaro.

I found another movie I want to see though - Youth of the Beast. Some sort of ultra-violent japanese gangster movie or something.

Oh. But did you see Audition? I have yet to see Gozu, but heard it's worth it.

Audition is pretty fun, especially in a cinema filled with people who thought it was a love story.

It practically is a love story, until the very end. That's what's great.

I saw both, but I saw Gozu most recently. It's very wierd... I don't even know if I would say good, it's just wierd. I'd probably recommend watching it at least once though.

I'll probably order Gozu on ebay, since you can't really rent this kind of movie here.

A few days ago, Audition was playing on TV. And not at 2am, but at something like 9:30pm. It's surprising D:

You should really really really try to find Visitor Q, it's the best Miike I've seen so far. It's the most disturbing and serious.

Zombie movies typically suck. What's so interesting about yet another zombie movie? I'd be fine with another Shawn of the Dead movie but all these run of the mill Romero ripoffs aren't exactly innovating the genre.

Third off, you suck. Wait, does that come as part of point number 2? I bet Rex had a bad experience with a corpse when he was younger or something.

Is that to say you have had good* experiences with corpses, Teatime ?

Damn my vivid imagination.
