Well certain hardware (like my piece of shit scanner for example) and certain software (that nobody uses anyway) might not work anymore, but it's mostly good for your system, because it fixes the biggest security holes and leaks in XP. If you have your 'puter connected to the net I'd say SP1 is a minimum requirement if you want to keep it at least moderately clean - actually, some newer pieces of software won't even install if you don't have at least SP1.
But if you're only looking for a quick way to fix the HD problem, follow these instructions:
- Start
- Run... "regedit".
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters.
- Change "EnableBigLba" value from '0' to '1'.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
You may find some better partitioning software than fdisk online, but I'm not sure if it'll take care of the data you already have on the disk. And I would definately NOT recommend using them if the disk in question also works as your system partition.
Well there's also a-fucking-o'-plenty of XP serial keys around as well. And you could just download the corporate edition, which doesn't require activation, in which case the cd-key/serial doesn't really matter.
I have a bad feeling, though, that this stuff is ending up in the wasteland since it supports piracy and rum YARR
