Name a SINGLE new feature you want in FO3.

Since Bethesda decided to make Fallout 3, we figured we might as well have a forum about it.

How would diplomatic negotations with a deathclaw go?

You: "I'll give you my spleen if you let me by. It's nice and juicy!"

Deathclaw: .....

You: "No really!" *hides plasma rifle* "I won't shoot you in the back of your tiny brained skull once I give you my spleen! Honest!"

Deathclaw: ?...

You: "How about some drymeat? It's scrumptous and nutritious and stays good for years and years!" *offers some drymeat*

Deathclaw: *eats drymeat and the player* So players really DO taste like chicken! I hope you saved lately because diplomacy doesn't work on deathclaws. xD

How about instead of diplomacy all the time maybe just maybe let the player start a nice comfortable distance away from the combat zone enounter like in Fallout Tactics? That way you could just run away or sneak by. A diplomatic character should also be stealthy. One skill shouldn't solve every problem.

Yeah, good example. Not that I'm into playing those things for real. But definitely in-keeping with the Fallout thang.
Sounds kinda like the one in Fable and Gun and lots of other games. Except with a nice little advantage based on your gambling skill.

King of Creation wrote:Well, they haven't really done much of anything, I imagine, in relation to Fallout. They appear to have their plate full at the moment with Oblivion. I'm not sure of their track record, though, of fan input. But we certainly have a lot to input.
Judging from what I've read they have a small group of people working on Fallout 3 (planning and ideas and concepts) while they finish up Oblivion and then they're going to give Fallout 3 their full attention...

Unless they have some really good ideas they want to use for an Oblivion expansion and have no real idea what they want to do with Fallout 3 yet. :anger:

Anyways they said they do this rether than having an actual game being worked on so that they don't have to scrap a lot of work later on. They sound very coordinated and the most likely to do a good job on Fallout 3. *nods*

Bethesda has a program that can automatically generate natural outdoor areas. It's likely they could program it to make a big wasteland. Spiffy eh? No time invested in that bit. More time for them to make quests and NPC's and storyline and other good stuff. Yay!

Wow I read this whole thread. Insomnia sucks.

The one thing I'd like in FO3 is grappling hooks you can attach to a rope so you can throw it up to high places and use it to get there. Similar to King's Quest 8 but not scripted. I want the physics realistic so the hook has to grab something and if it just kinda sticks it migh let go after you get halfway up. xD Talk about landing hard on your butt!! Haha!

Hmm.. that's about it. As far as things go that other people haven't really mentioned. Hmm... Well I would like better quests than those from Morrowind. Those are pretty bad about making you go from one end of the world to the other but I think someone already complained about that.

Whatever do you mean, dear pIp ?

My comment was loaded, utterly stuffed even, with subtlety (to the point of being leagues from a low and craven brand of simplicity), so much so, that it wasn't there*.

Which means we are left with the messenger.

Yes. :drunk:

First of all, let me congratulate you on a whopping quintuple-post!

The most important thing with skills is that they're balanced, meaning there is no skills superior to other, which is a pain in the ol' anchor tattoo to achieve. In my opinion, Fallout already offered multiple possibilities of solving quests. There were even quests/situations that were achievable for characters with only a certain skill(first aid, repair, science...). The possibility of finishing the game without combat or dialogue is debatable.
Judging from what I've read they have a small group of people working on Fallout 3 (planning and ideas and concepts) while they finish up Oblivion and then they're going to give Fallout 3 their full attention...
It's hard to estimate how long the post-production phase will last(bug fixes, updates, at least one expansion pack, multiplayer?). That will take some resources away from Fallout 3 development. As it seems now, Oblivion has some severe gameplay and stability issues. The planned release has been postponed to Q1 2006, if I recall correctly, and that's not necessarily final. However, the development time of Fallout 3 will be a lot shorter, with the engine being ready and the developers already having experience of the engine. Somewhere between 1 and 1 1/2 years would be my guess.

Yeah, it's definitely easier to create a wasteland landscape. Just paint the ground yellow. Perhaps add a rock or a skeleton here and there. Bethesda are lucky they are both the developer and publisher, but that doesn't mean they can spend too much time on working on their projects.

Indeed. The Fallout series definitely needs some kickass ninja action! Maybe you could shoot shurikens from your power armor. :yakuza chop!:

I'll obliterate your thread about a first-person Fallout 3 in just a moment, after I am finished installing Half-Life 2.

I have yet to play a ninja game where you actually use a grappling hook and rope to get to higher places. The only instance I could think of was King's Quest 8 and that's not much of a ninja game. I know it's not much of a post apoc game either but you have to pick locks in both fantasy and post apoc RPG's so why not have something like a grappling hook in both games as well?

Although there are throwing knives in both that game and in the Fallout games it doesn't make the Fallout games seem ninja-like.

I have played one of the Tenchu games, unless I'm thinking of another game, and I don't remember a grappling hook. Hmm.. Well anyways it's more of a generic explorer/thief's tools than a ninja's.
