Are you looking for home protection guns, or for concealed carry guns?
For home protection, a short shotgun or a heavy .357 revolver will work best. As for the c.c., you'd want something that you can carry all day without getting cramps or needing a massage when you take it off. Steyr M-1A is a good choice, and almost twice as cheap as XD or Glock. Then again, if you're a big guy, it might not make much difference to you...
Caliber is not as important as skill and practice.
Oh, and Ruger doesn't make P90 or P97 anymore.

Really? Then I got my P-90 at a good time. Semi-autos are decent Ryno, but I agree with you in regards to the revolver. Certain semi autos have more of a tendancy to jam then others, but I've yet to have a problem with my Ruger and I fire it regularly. The only troubles I find with my gun are I have some trouble ejecting the clip after firing it sometimes. No idea why.

Not being familiar with the Ruger P series, does it have a magazine safety in it?Wolfman Walt wrote:Really? Then I got my P-90 at a good time. I would stay away from the Steyr guns:ApTyp wrote:Are you looking for home protection guns, or for concealed carry guns?

Essentially what's going on is that Steyr guns and parts are essentially banned from importation. So if he breaks the gun he's going to pay out the ass for replacment parts, assuming someone out there has something to sell. Besides, as I see it Steyr guns are rather expensive as is, not something our teacher friend here will be able to afford easily.

Technically they're not 98K's, they're M48's. One is on my list of guns to get in the future though, unless I can find a real honest to God Nazi 98K, even then I'd probably get the M48 to shoot while the 98K sat on display or something.

Discuss.
And I've heard Mosin-Nagants are fine. And if you're not interested in Rushkie stuff, you could always get an M39. There's plenty of those around since they were in active use all the way 'till the 60's.ApTyp wrote:Fuck the Nazi markings, and fuck historical value. I want a good bolt-action rifle that doesn't cost $500. The history may burn in flames, see if I care.
I've seen some of 'em in hunting & firearm stores and since I'm interested in history and shit I asked the price and I was told that M39s in good condition go for about 200 €, those that are older and badly taken care of go for cheaper, of course.

Mosins are not crap. They're excellent rifles for an excellent price, especially if you can find one of them Finnish M39's like Kashluk posted. Them things is nice.
The Mosin-Nagant might not be the nicest looking gun around, but they work, they were built to last. Just because you can find Russian Mosins for $70 doesn't mean they're shit, what it means is there are a shitload of them.

I shot Mosin, and it was crap. Besides, didn't you have shitty experience with your Mosin, too? The rifle design is more than 100 years old, for god sakes, and not because it's so perfect.
Just because it shoots straight doesn't mean I'll be rushing to buy it. I find Mausers to be 'nicer' for some reason. Also, IIRC surplus 8mm ammo is cheaper than 7.62x54R.
BTW, have you tried Wolf's .303 British in your Enfield? If so, how much did you pay for it?

I'd like for you to point out where I can get 20 shots of 8mm Mauser for under $1.95
I don't know where you saw that I had shitty experience with my Mosin, I don't like that the bolt is so hard to work, but that comes from being used to my Enfield. The accuracy on mine isn't super good, but it's good enough to hit a man at 100 yards. Whoever owned it before me (like six of them being Red Army soldiers) wasn't keen on keeping the barrel clean after firing it (probably those same soldiers) and thus it's still incredibly dirty and simply will not come clean. Still, I didn't buy it to hunt with or enter any compititions with it, I bought it to shoot it and for the history behind the weapon, but also because I can get them super cheap, as well as ammo so I can hand them out to my friends and family who don't have weapons of thier own in the event of the apocalypse.
I heard Wolf was coming out with .303British, but I haven't seen any, so I don't think it's even out yet.

No, I actually saw .303 Wolf at last week's (was it?) gun show. Trust me, it's out. I think I even saw a box of Wolf's .30 Carbine...

I never buy my ammo from websites, though. Hazmat fees suck. That's what gunshows are for, amigo!

I buy all my ammo locally, that $1.95 is flat, no tax, no shipping, I just go into the gunshow, find the ammo sellers and then compare prices. I forget how much I paid for my case of 800 rounds, something like $60, original Polish production, still sealed in tins. Snag a couple cases of that and more Mosin-Nagants and you quickly see why I would choose them to arm my band of wasteland raiders.
I simply don't think you'll be able to find as much good quality 8mm ammunition as you will with 7.62x54R because as far as I know every Soviet nation produced the shit, and many still do for their militaries, like Russia. Most of their medium machine guns still use x54R. I think it's going to be a long time before this stuff dries up.
I haven't seen Wolf .303 out here at all. If it's competitively priced with the brass cased stuff I've been buying then maybe I'll snag some up I reckon because I love shooting my No.4, it's just that cost of ammo is so prohibitive. Cheapest I've bought it was I think about $8.50 a box.

I was considering getting a .44 Magnum Colt Anaconda, but the thing is abit too big for my tastes and the gun shop I went to was charging too much to begin with ($957 for a used one. For 200 more i could get the new .50 Magnum Smith and Wesson put out). I think I'll get a Colt Python instead. Now comes the problem of finding one.
