Didn't FMJ win like 15 oscars or grammys (not sure)?
Would you like to get high with that?

No, not even anything near that. It was only nominated for one Oscar as a matter of fact, and didn't win that, either. The nomination was for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

FMJ should of got alot more recognition than nomitated for best screenplay. FMJ in my opinion was the best military-war movie EVER.

It's not the best, it's ... different than most war movies. I watch a lot of old war movies, some starring John Wayne 8)

I consider Saving private Ryan better than FMJ, it lacked an interesting plot but as a war movie, I think it's excellent.

I think FMJ is ok, but it's not exactly war, they just go into training for a bit and then vietnam and go on one or two missions. It was more like catch 22 (not the story...the setting)

Saving private ryan was good, but it lacked a story wich fmj had much of (but fmj lacked action scenes)

If anything I think starship troopers is a good movie. It has all the propaganda, violence and a story to it. I think.

I don't know war, I've never been in one.

Starship troopers is OK. But the story lacks some depth. Lots of action though and the shower scene.
It's fun to see humans fighting against huge space monsters though, I like that. Especially Predator and Aliens for that sake.

You shouldn't judge a movie by how many Oscars it was nominated for. Awards are extremely timely things and you can get a heap of Oscars for a movie one year, but if you'd released it a year earlier or later you may very well have been overlooked. To use another Kubrick film as an example, look at Lolita. It's an outstanding movie featuring really good performances, especially James Mason and Peter Sellers. Unfortunately for Kubrick he released it the same year that Lawrence of Arabia, To Kill A Mockingbird, Mutiny on the Bounty, The Longest Day, and The Manchurian Candidate was released. So, all Lolita ended up with was one nomination (Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium) that actually went to Vladimir Nabokov, and not Stanley Kubrick. (1962 was a really, really good year for movies.) Remember "not the best movie of the year" doesn't mean "shitty movie".

As for Full Metal Jacket I have to say that it is not one of Kubrick's best. It's basically two movies tacked together (training and combat) and ends too abruptly. You can't say that it's the definitive movie about Viet Nam largely because everything that happens in combat there is atypical.

If Kubrick should be remembered for one thing, I don't think it's any particular movie he made. Rather, I think he should be remembered for his extreme versatility. Paths to Glory, The Shining, Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, the list just goes on and on. Just look at all of those different genres...

I have to agree there. Not Kubricks best movie but still a remarkable movie in war movie genre.

Wheee someone else who loves (or at least knows a great deal about) Mr. Kubrick. I really liked all his movies, esp. Paths Of Glory.

"That theme will probably be repeated in Fallout 3, and to go out and build a home somewhere else defeats the purpose of the story."

lol, thats pretty funny if you think about, a person goes out to save his home, then starts his own and forgets about his people and lets them die

Maxis REALLY should create a sim game that is sorta like stronghold, as in you sometimes have to defend and stuff, but it sounds cool.. because in The Sims you cant build a garage and have a car

and when you have a job, you should actually have to travel to your job and stuff, or if you live in the wild, you get to hunt your own food and...

I am getting WAY offtopic. actually, i'm being way ontopic, but for this forum, well, this topic belongs in like the "what the fuck" forum

oh yeah i think when you are with a hooker, it should show an indepth cinematic, and depending on how much you pay you get a longer cinematic, and right now i think i just need to visit a porn site and have a happy time, im too excited now to say anything
Confront with understanding and love. Use violence as a last resort.

Find and watch the unedited version, and watch the main character (can never remember guy's names) open up Denise Richards shirt, and get his feel on, in public! (I'm not making this shit up, I found it on WinMX and downloaded it)
