Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Depends where you got the key.

Blah, wanted to warn you against that build. Fun at the beginning, but you will start hating it because it sucks so much (unless you have amazing equipment).
Koki wrote:Hammerdins, Smitters... I like to have my character remotely likeable. Throwing hammers was in Mario, and attacking mainly with Shield is like WTF. So no way I'm making a retarded char like that.
Alternatively, once you get hold of some decent equipment, you can make an Auradin, run around and monsters (and players) die wherever you go to. Occasionally cast a few hammers/smite/charge/zeal.

A really good combo is Charge/Smite (yes, bashing with a shield, but it's really effective), and Charge to your targets (knockback, huge damage, etc).

You could try, but I would say probably now. Anyway, they aren't all that expensive, I just got yet another copy a while ago (need many cd-keys lol, it's the internet = serious business), and I paid around ~4£ for Classic and ~8£ for the expansion.

Also depends on whence you got your dubious key, is it old and perhaps in use? Did it ever work? Then it's worth a try. If you generated it, then there's a likelyhood of about 99% that it won't work.

I used such a cd-key. It was banned on Asia and Europe, but USWest and East were okay. well, East was sometimes used by some other player, but West was alwasy vacant, so i had no prob.

Don't warn him. It IS fun, and it's clear that Koki is not opting for high ladder standing. Beides, my fanatic zealadin could hold on his own in hell 8pp in almost all areas pretty well, and my gear wasn't INSANELY uber. Only non-ladder stuff, and no runewords cept enigma.
Basically, biggest problem i had was with physical immunes, so i had to use Vengeance on em (it was poorly developed though).

Hammerdins are retarded. I wouldn't play em even if I really wanted to reach top of the ladder.

Blargh! Hammerdins are so much fun due to the fact already that no monster (read: masses of monsters) can stop you. It takes less time to kill 10 monsters with a hammerdin, than it takes for a Zealdin to kill 1.

For a Zealdin, you will probably be using ebotdz:

Which can be fairly difficult to afford if you have just started over. With anything lesser and no Fortitude, your Zealdin will most likely suck.

Anyway, Koki, are you playing bnet?

Please - stop talking about Diablo 2. It sickens me, because I read all of the threads with new posts in General Gaming, and I hate to have to come across... that.

SP only.

Singleplayerwise, I enjoyed the first Diablo more. It had a more dungeon crawl feeling to it. And partly because I never finished D2 due to the fact that my Games folder was deleted when I uninstalled Half-Life.
