isn't it ironical when Fallout players moralize on the conduct of violence...?

the topic of Suicide Bombers, perhaps, are not for players who fall under the "IMMATURE+" ESRB ratings.

i think its relevant for the storywriters to tackle the theme of terrorism and 'martyrdom' operations in Fallout. The player can take on the perspective of either the 'terrorists', or the 'counterterrorists'. And this time - its when the bang shoot em up FPS like Counterstrike fail to simulate the current reality of 'new terrorism'.

No, because the draw of Fallout is deep character customization and ethical and moral decisions, not mindless violence.

Well I like the mindless violence, but Slave is right, the game is about character development, not playing Gaza Strip Frogger where you attempt to blow the cars up by running into them. What's the fun in that?

"ALLAH!"

*BOOM*

"Your life ends in the wasteland, rest in peices, shmuck."

Game over, try again.

Thus, Fallout 3 may offer a good opportunity to explore the phenomena of suicide terrorism - which has been trivialised as an inexplicable enterprise of 'mad men'.

:)

The fun is in recruiting NPCs (including the double headed brahmins and other critters) to form your squad of 'martyrs' and turning them into IEDs on legs.

No. Fallout 3 shouldn't tackle terrorism, suicide bombers or camels flying planes. It doesn't make any sense, suicide bombers aren't too bigger phenomenon and it's just a really dumb idea. I wouldn't mind mabye a quest with a guy willing to kill himself to kill others, but an action-rpg of counter-strike set after the apocalypse is a shit idea.

If you're so obsessed with suicide bombers, why don't you go and marry one?

hmmm. you failed to understand, esteemed Vault Dweller, that i mentioned that FPS such as counter-strikes is inadequate for the exploration of terrorism and counter-terrorism.

but a strategy/rpg game like Fallout has all the mechanisms to explore this metanarrative.

players will not be limited to using violence to defuse a violent circumstance. RPGs are simulations that offer non-violent approaches to tackle conflicts.

I think you fail to understand, suicide bombers are just a smaller part of the big picture, suicide bombers are religious extremests usually, so instead of just bombers, which are gay like San Fran, it would be better to cover the whole religious extremest thing, but that's equally stupid, and besides they covered it in Fallout 1 with the Cathederal folk, sure there weren't your precious suicide bombers, but it was there. Find something else for us to poke holes in please.

Think I used enough commas?

I thought sacrificing your mind so you could be a super-mutant was suicide-ish?

What's so deep about terrorism anyway? It's either BAD EVIL TERRORISTS twiddling there moustaches and tying bombs to train-tracks or POOR FREEDOM FIGHTERS who lost there wife 10 years ago accidently so they'll kill a bunch of other people. It's been done to death and seems pointless to have suicide bombers when half the AI in modern rpgs are equivalent to a kamikaze pilot.

What's the big deal about being able to play a suicide bomber anyhow? I mean, you get a bomb, you blow the bomb, and boom! Game-over. How fun! (sarcasm, for those slow people out there)

I never considered it a serious topic. It's something from the deep bowels of FOBOS, and should never be mentioned again.

Seems that the American (and perhaps Jewish/Israeli) citizens are particularly touchy over the issue of suicide terrorism eh?

bok bok bok...

anyway - i agree suicide bombers are only part of the big picture - in fact, the tip of the iceberg. its a very rich narrative for drama and thought-provocation.

i'm sure FO3 will receive lotsa media attention and sell like hot cakes should the theme of suicide bombers be incorporated in the upcoming game. :p

I'm not touchy because we get attacked by these douche nozzles, I'm touchy because that is the dumbest suggestion for a game I have heard in a long time, which leads me to belive that if you think this would make a good game concept you need to have your balls cut off so you can't contaminate the rest of the planet with your idiot seed. Here's some advice, stick to butt sex.

I could give less of a shit about suicide bombers or terrorists...The possibility of ever encountering one is so remote as to make me give even less of a shit...

What I do give a shit about is that Fallout 3 is not a place for suicide bombers...This is a truely stupid idea..I don't know why you keep bantering on about it...It's stupid...It's fucking stupid...

If you're so damned fascinated about it, download the FO2 editors and make yourself a fucking MOD so you can kill yourself over and over and over...

Would it be fun? No. Would anyone but you be interested? No. Should this thread be thrown to the Wastelend? No, because I'm tired of fucking seeing it....Lets just let this topic die after lam_par tries once more to sway us into liking his shitknob idea.

Fallout 3 should be about shooting your best friend in the back for the last sip from the canteen.

Come on now...This thread needs to be put to rest...Lets let it sleep...sleep...sleep....and then die.......soon.

Well tell you what, go invite Osama to come to your country, and blow the shit out of your famous landmarks, fuck up your economy, and kill thousands of your people, we will see how touchy you are then. So until that happesn, please, stfu. Oh, and one more thing, Interplay is not going to incorporate your dumbass idea into thier game. And no, not many people will ask for it either. I bet even the terrorists think your idea is stupid. So stop speaking for everyone.

I don't believe that this is the thread the discuss issue of real life terrorism. If you like to discuss it, well, you can take it to GD or the Wasteland.
