Summer '05 according to PC Gamer this month. Word has it that the devs are making sure the AI is up to scratch as STALKER scored just behind HL2 as most anticipated game in several gaming magazines and they don't want it to look/play shite in comparison to HL2.

I can't blame them for this approach, but the longer it's delayed, the more pressure there will be for it to be rather spiffy on release.

During early development and testing of the combat AI, one stalker went mad and began to consider himself an enemy, and promptly set about trying to dispose of this "enemy" as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, our animators did not foresee the need to create an animation where a stalker puts a gun to his own head, so the poor guy shot the only part of the "enemy" he could--his own feet.
Heh, funny stuff, but a bit interesting to implement, I would think. One dude finally loses it after exploring the horrors of the Zone and pops one into his noggin'.

Unfortunately they are falling back on the "I lost my memory" plot device. Kind of sucks to use something that has been overdone. Who knows, they might put in a new twist to it.
