Hellgate: London at Gamespot

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[ Game -> Preview ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... e=Hellgate: London">Game: Hellgate: London</a>

<p>The game that gets previewed way too much, <a href="http://www.hellgatelondon.com" target="_self">Hellgate: London</a>, has been <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/hellgate ... 27908.html" target="_self">previewed at Gamespot</a>. Here's a bit:</p>
<blockquote>
<p><em><span class="gstext15">
It certainly looks great, and a lot of stuff can happen on the screen
at once. First of all, the environments and character models all look
excellent, but then there are tons of particle and spell effects...not
to mention detailed lighting and shadowing. <strong>While you play the game
from the first-person perspective, which was chosen because it's far
more immersive than the traditional top-down view for role-playing
games</strong>, you'll also switch to a third-person perspective when you wield
a melee weapon, such as a magical sword or a cricket bat (which is an
homage to the recent British zombie romantic comedy Shaun of the Dead).</span></em></p>
</blockquote>
<p>I'm hoping Bethesda aren't taking that attitude.

Even roguelikes are more immersive than this diablo slugfest. Immersion isn't something you see on the screen, it's inside your head. Magical swords and cricket bats just extinguished the last bit of interest I had of this game.

You've already played the game and feel at liberty to judge it for being 'less immersive' than roguelikes. Where can I borrow your time machine?

Wohoo RPG, mindless slaughter, postapoc, magic swords and CRICKET BATS =D Does it get any better??

Is it absolutely positive that it's an homage?

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a cricket bat in the game as an easter egg.

This particular game will not be worth playing if it does not allow one to destroy the foundations of 'Big Ben' with a +15 Vorpal Returning Cricket Bat of Evisceration. No, it won't. :drunk:

You don't need a time machine, in fact all you need is Quicktime.

Don't know about you, but I don't buy games just to verify they suck.
