NWS press release

<strong>[ Mod -> Update ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... e=NWS">Mod: NWS</a>

<p><strong>Brahmin</strong> sent along the latest press release for the mod he works on, <em>NWS</em>. There's quite a lot of it, but here it is: </p><p>
</p><blockquote><em><span class="postbody">
Once again we come to press release time, I can tell you that we mean
business. Lots of work is going on, and the demo is taking shape. Our
writers are working hard on dialogue at the moment, as it is a major
step in the completion of the demo. You are welcome to apply, as we are
always looking for new talent, scripters in particular are required. I
would say to drop us a line at our public forums <a target="_blank" href="http://forum.nwsgames.net/">http://foru ... mes.net</a>
but we are currently having problems with our website. If you wish to
join you can either wait around for them to come back online (on an
uncertain timescale), or you can email/msn our applications manager,
Brahmin on <a href="mailto:wayland@hairy-barbarian.com">wayland@hairy-barbarian.com</a>

My Canadian Odyssey: A story by Lance Mathers

You can never imagine what war is like from the seat of a reclining
chair, or the comfort of a bed with a layer of blankets covering you...

The sun is a yellow smudge behind a cloudy gray canvas. I crouch in
a muddy hole. God knows what happened to Sergeant Hope and his
corporal. I have a pistol I found somewhere clutched in my left hand
and am struggling to light a cigarette with my right. My hands are
shaking badly and a cold bitter rain is falling. A cloud of mosquitoes
hovers over my hole, the one I'm sharing with a dead man. I shot him,
mere moments before...

Of course, I have no idea what happened to my cameraman either. Robbed of my heroic moment!

Someone fires a long burst with a machine gun. A few of the rounds
zip over my head. I can hear labored breathing, and the jingle of
equipment. A man appears over the edge of my hole and drops down onto
the corpse beside me.

"Who the hell are you?" he asks. I see a young muddy face with old
eyes. His helmet chin strap is undone, and his uniform is ripped in
countless places.

"I'm a freelance reporter. Who are you?"

"Second Lieutenant Easton. I'm looking for Lt. Minton, or his platoon sergeant. Have you seen them?"

"Haven't seen Minton in a day or two, but just a hour ago I got separated from Sergeant Hope."

"Very good then, sir, perhaps you'd like to help me find them?"

"Let's go Lieutenant." I manage to stand, but my legs and back are killing me. I scramble up out of the hole and follow him.

The streets of Montreal are choked with rubble and fallen power
lines. Refugees huddle together with their meagre belongings. Acrid
smoke and fumes make it difficult to breathe. The imagery is too
intense, too vivid for me to prevent myself from overloading. We pass
rows of corpses. Two American soldiers in Power Armor trudge by with
power rifles. Their passing leaves impressions in the asphalt road...

I'm lagging further behind, and the lieutenant doesn't seem to notice.

Hmm, I wonder in what stage this mod is. The screenshot isn't very informative. It looks like a massacre of all the characters in Fallout 2, even Mike Tyson. Anyway, good luck and all that, don't let this one go into the waste bucket.

The forums seems to be down. :?

Our website has been down almost a week. I'm getting so desperate, I've considered applying to FMF.
Anyway, I can tell you that we have been working hard. Smary, Riyuo and Mikey are all new writers and they are making an impact. Eimink(one of our musicians) has even joined in the writing effort and he is proving to be a multi-talented guy. I don't want to forget about Dack, another talented writer who never says 'die.' The whole team is waiting on us to finish making our Demo's dialogues scriptable. Hopefully we will be able to finish soon and shift the burden to the scripters, Lust and Holodog.

The question was asked how long has this mod been going. I know that it started out with two people named ColJack and Navyguy. A lot of people have come and gone since then. I think it started back in 2003. Maybe Snake knows.

The screenshot is for jokes, yeah, I made it cos we've had screenshots from every finished location in the previus press releases, so, just for laughfs, and cos I enjoyed making it

I think if we had released our original demo we would have been chopped into pieces.

As for wild_qwerty, I think he has been busy avoiding all the heartbroken, angry women he created when he got married. He is still on the team.

Such are the perils of making a Fallout mod.

If you know something is a failure I'm sure you would not put it out. We weren't ready. Our first demo was not playable and crushed our morale for a while. If we had released it, I'm not sure we would have survived the ensuing bloodbath.

But the one that is currently in production has a lot of hope behind it, and lots of blood and tears.

I can guarantee you it's going to be chopped into little bitty pieces anyway, no matter what you do.

Hmmm. Fortunately, we have too many talented people that will be able to cover for any of my missteps. However, I am getting the sense that our FMF bretheren want to throw the gauntlet down. I tell myself that it is his youthful braggadocio(definition: vain noisy boasting or bragging.) but his predictions are amusing and for my part, I will enjoy proving him wrong. :eyebrow:

You will fail miserably in your quest as FMF reigns supreme over your hack-neyed (definition: A horse of a breed developed in England, having a gait characterized by pronounced flexion of the knee.) mod project.

I'll agree that a certain element won't be happy no matter what FMF, MR or any other mod does, but they aren't the people we are doing this for. I'll tell you this, I think FMF is going to set a pretty high standard, so we'll have to beat them through subterfuge, artifice, and deceit. We have many tools, and this is after all just the first step in my evil plan...
