I have played Fallout 2 for 2 years now, and I have discovered some neat things that haven't been mentioned too much. Have any of you fellows ever seen:
Your Wanted Poster if you are a bad dude.
Bounty hunters if you are bad.
Weird Press gangers.
Whale.
Mutant army remnants
Unity patrols
Rogues
Claim Jumpers
Homeless People
Cannibals
Holy men fighting brahmin

yep, i've found all these things (except holy people fighting brahmin... althrough i found 'normal' holy people encounter) - imho all these encounters are not worth mentioning

The weird ones like the Brahmin that explode if touched and the Pariah dog which doesn't leave you alone are ones I had to find myself. And besides gaining a better chance of making a critical hit, and finding the fun special encounters, Luck is useless..Right?

Well, there's gambling, and I'm sure there are occasional luck rolls in dialog situations... right?

Luck is not relevant with sepcial encounters.

Basically luck is useful for cirtical hits.

Combin a 10 luck char with Sniper perk and eveyr single shot you make is a critical (well, 95% actually as you still have 5% critical miss no matter what, I beleive). Lame if you ask me, but that's how it is...

I guess every bad guy has experienced wanted posters and bounty hunters.
The rest are just random/special encounters.

Speaking of critical misses, I think that in all my four Fo1 and five Fo2 playthroughs, I've only ever gotten one critical miss.

That is actually possible, I haven't got them in my most recent playthroughs too. I think it depends on if your weapon skill is weak and you have very low luck. Well, I don't use that combination ever. Anymore, that is. :P
If you want to know what critical failures there are, try the Jinxed trait. I've only gotten the basic 'miss next turn', 'drop your weapon', 'oops! you shot someone else', 'lost rest of your ammo' and 'you accidentally hurt yourself'. I'm not sure but I've heard there is one which causes your weapon to explode, or someone has been bullshitting me again.

seen em all. My first game I killed one of the thieving kids in the Den. That was after all Den quests were done for me, (I couldn't get the drunkard for Modoc after that, which sucked) and I was a child killer... I was a dumb RPGer then, about 3 years ago.

That's a great thing about Fallout in my opinion, the world around you react to the things you've done, something what all RPGs should be like. No restrictions, non-linear. You weren't a dumb RPGer then, you were 'role-playing'. That's how I see it.

It's dumb powergaming, though.

Hey i can't blame you for fragging that kid in the den, they all desirved it. But the thing that sucks about being a child killer is you can't get Cassidy.

ROFL, that reminds me. One time i was in Redding, and for some reason (forget why) i get into a gun battle with the entire town, now Cassidy has a gauss rifle, and there are many good targets with Assualt rifles and such, but what does he shoot? A child. LOL, and he gets on my back for fragging kids.

You know, if you waste Tubby and Flick those kids will stop stealing. Plus it doesn't mess with your karma. Sometimes, this means no Cat's Paw from Flick, but there's plenty scattered about, if you know where to look.

As for the kids outside the Hole, I haven't tried killing Frankie to get hem to stop stealing, but that'd probably work, too. You'd want to convince him to buy whiskey from Becky first, though.

Or you might try the european version, no kids.

Well, there is floating text, but I guess they don't steal.

Actually, you can try to steal back the items they steal from you... and, at least in my experience, if you get caught stealing, no one goes hostile on you... so, my character with 20% in steal was able to get back any item lost to the thieving little brats... eventually...
And about the whale... that's a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy joke... I'm surprised that there aren't more of them, since the humor in the both of them are so similar...

Yeah, but if they're invisible it's kinda hard to steal from them isn't it?

No you can really do this but I only had it with one weapon and I cant remember if it was fallout 1 or 2 but my gun did explode one time.

P.S talking about invisible, What happen to that watch in fallout 1 witch made you invisible and harder to hit in combat.
