Oh man, that looks fucking awful. Not only are they ditching the tactical aspect, it looks as if the X-COM organization is going to be a bunch of random assholes in the 1950s with civilian weapons?

I still don't understand what it is with game developers and the 1950s. It was kind of cute when Fallout 1 and 2 did it, the retro styling of X-COM Apocalypse was all right, then you have that stupid Stubbs game, Bioshock and Fallout 3 leg-humping the decade. The 1950s were not a better, more innocent time - racism was rampant, ignorance ruled the day, and authority cowed people without people complaining.

I like the style of the cars, but little else.

I don't understand the connection between this game and x-com. It bears far more resemblance with art and weapon style to Bioshock. I was half expecting the guy to freeze something with a plasmid at one stage. Meh, franchise rape at its best I suppose.

You're giving them too much credit in thinking anything from what was shown is somehow tied to X-COM.

it's the new thing. Five years ago it was space marines in every game, now its snappy 1950's kitsch. In another 5 years it'll probably be blaxploitation.

I also noticed, reading through the blurb after my initial disgust wore off, is you play the role of some random FBI agent. If they're going for an early "origins of X-COM thing," wouldn't being a covert Army unit be way more appropriate?

The X-Com universe officially begins with the Roswell Incident and then carries through to the '50's where they deal with a scant few abductions. Might have to do with those, especially since at that point in the setting no government had anything proper to deal with aliens.

Yeah, but you still send in the Army to kill aliens, not the FBI.

I think they're trying to pass it off as you being apart of the investigatory team that finds out that there are aliens and you being apart of the first contact have to hold the aliens off until the army gets there. Or something like that, I don't know, at this point nobody does. I'm not really upset, I just don't care about this stuff anymore, honestly. First Command and Conquer, then Fallout, then X-Com, can't win.

I can't wait until they start necro-raping shit that didn't sell many units but were fun as hell. I bet Renegade and/or Crusader get the first person butt fucking within 5 years.

Ah the good old times. When you could shout swell guy and the reply would be "sir?"
:drunk:

On topic; This looks like a bigger fuck up than Fallout 3. Much bigger. Not that I know if the game in itself will be any good or bad from watching a lil video but why the hell use an old, epic name like that to a game that has no relation to it? None at all. The only common plot - part is aliens. And that would be fine if it was still had the same GAMEPLAY as XCOM but it doesn't.

Fallout 3 at least attempts to have either, that is the pot and settin. This one just says "fuck you" to both and walks off proudly having pissed all over a good old title.
