The Enclave - real soldiers or your paramiliary organization

The Enclave seemed very professional in some aspects, does anybody know how it was started or how they chose their name? General Maxson's story was believable since he was an old soldier and could teach new recruits the way of old, and they taught others so on and so forth. But how did the Enclave form up and recruit? This has always been one of the questions I never understood in FO2.

That and Frank Horrigan.

Well, the Enclave is what's left of the United States of America. The government and a large detachment of troops fled to the oil derrick before the bombs hit.

i had an idea but i cant for the life of me remember how the story ends and where the president came from, did the origanal president go to the rig during the war and all subsequent incumbents come from there to, or did the president in the game move to the rig for some reason from a military bunker/vault?

my idea i was having was just general people from the rig, other non mutant survivers and their descendents trained by the presidents personal guard units that i assume he would have in the event of war, each 'generation' of soldiers training the next from recruits picked up (abducted?) in exploration that were suitably 'human'

hmmm random speculation and my own ideas, probably not what you were looking for sorry!

oh and wasnt horrigan in there cos they needed a big boss otherwise it isnt a proper game? :)

Horrigan was a secret service agent who was (I believe) exposed to FEV during the excavation at Mariposa (or he may have been a test subject, I'm not sure). The Enclave scientists then carefully engineered his mutation using FEV injections and the armor Frank wears in order to turn him into the endboss we know and love.

The Enclave = US Military.

When the nuclear apocalypse was inevitable, a bunch of high-command officers and their best troops decided to hide in the oilrig accompanied with el presidente and his best scientists. So the Enclave represents the pre-war order, the United States government.

Frank Horrigan was, like stated before, a special service agent who got mutated in Mariposa and his mutation was controlled with that huge armor we all know. As far as I know, the mutation burned away his rationality and compassion, but made his patriotism and hate for mutants (though he was one himself.. some kind of a Oidibus-complex?) even stronger.

I thought he never had any compassion or rationality to begin with.....

Well, FEV still cleared out the last bits of it, I'm sure :)

I always figured the Enclave were test tube descendants from the original remnants of the USA. Once the babies were born, they'd be brought up in some Soldierish ripoff hyperpatriotic death warrior manufacturing plant, then issued really cool armor and sent out to wait for a chosen one to wander across them on the west coast.

So yeah, about as professional and tactically-minded as any evil quasi-military group in an RPG.

Who cares about Horrigan? He's a freak, he needs to die!

Would it be worthwhile to ask this from MCA to hear what story he's got to tell us about this? It's been a while since the last FOB update, anyway.

There's a lot of information on the Enclave in the Enclave sourcebook on Fallout PnP.

There's a heap of info on what Horrigan is and how he came to be like this in FOB 0, the compilation of FOBs 1-3.

I'm not sure he'll answer you or make another FOB.
I think we "insulted" him or something.

Hardly. Saint and Killzig have been making fun of MCA for some time now, and he's still been putting out FOBs. And even if he won't do it for DACers, he'll do it for the BIS boards.

You mean the Interplay boards, right? :D

Insulted? Hardly.

I think he was having a vacation after IWD2, or just generally been lazy.

I wouldn't be surprised if every single object in Fallout 2 would turn out to be an easter egg.
