New Stuff At Oblivion-Lost

Post by Mad Max RW »

<html><body><P>Leading <A HREF=http://www.stalker-game.com/ target=_blank>S.T.A.L.K.E.R.</A> fan site <A HREF=http://www.oblivion-lost.com/ target=_blank>Oblivion-Lost</A> updated today with a bunch of new things concerning the Chernobyl based Survival/Horror FPS/RPG. First up is the <A HREF=http://www.oblivion-lost.com/en/index.php?site=e3.php target=_blank>full E3 report</A> from redrick. Here&#8217;s a bit on the open-ended gameplay:</P><blockquote><em>The idea is to make the game as open ended as possible. GSC is planning to have very few things (5-8) that are scripted and that can be done in any order. The rest is all generated on the fly. Monsters, NPCs, artifacts, anomalies will be in different places all the time. It will be a different gaming experience every time. This game will have something for everyone. You can play this as an FPS and shoot everything and everyone. You can play this as a RPG, explore the zone, make friends, join factions. You can play it as a stealth game by sneaking around. It should be noted that if you play it as an FPS you will have a hard time: one of the other main goals of the game is extreme realism. If you kill everyone you see, then pretty soon the NPCs that ran away will tell others about you. You will be shot at as soon as someone recognizes you. Advanced AI is the most important piece &#8211; the NPC will behave just like real Stalkers: their main goals are to stay alive and to make some money as well. The missions are all generated depending on the current conditions of the zone, where the artifacts are, where the NPCs are. Everything is always dynamic. This game will play different every time.</em></blockquote>It&#8217;s a pretty good long read and comes from a guy who had some hands on time with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Keep checking back because they are going to update it with exclusive screenshots.</P><P>Next is a <A HREF=http://board.oblivion-lost.com/viewtopic.php?t=383 target=_blank>translated post</A> from one of the guys at GSC Game World. He discusses THQ (the publisher), the game, and E3. The very end of the post mentions how the trailer shown at the event will be polished and released to the public in the next couple weeks. You can read all about it over <A HREF=http://board.oblivion-lost.com/viewtopic.php?t=383 target=_blank>here</A>.</P><P>Now to tie this all up, Oblivion-Lost spotted a new <A HREF=http://static.4players.de/4p-network/Sc ... llbild.jpg target=_blank>4Players screenshot</A> and <A HREF=http://www.3dgamers.com/specials/2003/e ... ights.html target=_blank>3D Gamers 10 highlights of E3</A> just happens to have S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on the list. That&#8217;s all for today.</P></body></html>

I'm thinking this game MIGHT be better than FO:BoS
I dunno, just a gut feeling.

Nah, I think you're exaggerating. :D

The open-ended gameplay looks nice on paper(or on screen), but I'd like to try the demo first to see if it's true. Anyway, that's something I've been waiting to see in FPS's for years.

better than hl2?
They need to release some hi-q movies of Stalker so we can see the physics and lighting in action.

Seems like HL2 physics are integral part of gameplay but in stalker they're a subtle addition. One thing I was acutally thinking about HL2 is they overdo it on the use of physics... Unlikely traps set up all over the place... but it's not supposed to be realistic while Stalker is.

it sure sounds great: all this AI life going on all the time - NPCs fighting, making deals, alliances, and taking up quests, and you're absolutely free to interact with all this world around you in any way you please (and the gameplay allows for).

Stalker Vs HL2? For me two most anticipated games (except Fo3). I guess Stalker's gameplay is more interesting and altogether it's cool in various respects but HL might simply have this 'x-factor' that will make it special. As far as graphics go, Stalker's objects will have more pollies (I'm not sure) but HL2 has other stunning effects (particles of dust, muscles' motion, THAT water, etc.)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vs Half-Life 2?

All i know is that I have my eye on both. Ok, i basically took my eye off of HL2 because it's almost a guaranteed success... but these freed-up eye time has allowed me more time for Stalker!
