Yup... They are seperate. If a Private someday wants to be a general, he can always go from Green to Gold or attend the Officer Training Course, in where he can get commissioned. But there is no straight path. Maybe in WWII that happened, but not anymore.

@rapidpeanut As far as I know, there is no ban on Generation Kill. You can get the book at an Post Exchange in Country... and we have enough resourceful people here that have it on cable. My non-Infantry friends who work in the office buy cable from the contractors. Hell have you ever seen a series ...
