A landmark game in many ways, with huge modding potential (especially with folks getting so pissed with waiting for HL2).

Single player is the best since Half-Life. It's just let down by multiplay that is very, very ordinary.

Mixed feelings on the TB v RT combat thing (this cropped up over at the TF boards as well, BTW). I like turn-based games, always have done. Thing is though, that the best turn-based combat has always been found in games based around it (XCom, JA2, S2) - where the combat is the point of the game. Tha...

1.Is the setting interesting and well-designed? 2.Do the screenshots catch your eye? 3.Is the concept new or refreshing? 4.What does this game offer me that no other game does? What the heck, I'll have a go. No doubt Bobbin will be along later. 1. I think so, but unless anyone here is testing it th...

It's "set in the devastated lanscapes of a strange planet lost among the stars" Oh, that's all right then  I thought this game was more about tactical combat than role-playing. That's my take as well, but I'm afraid self-delusion seems to be rampant around here. ..... tactical role...

Wonder what SSE:s reaction to this will be Total disinterest probably, unless they fancy playing it themselves. Metalheart looks very promising but am I alone in wondering what the fuck "a strange planet lost among the stars" has to do with post-apoc role-playing ? Or do I just define &qu...

Did you just realize nobody here likes TF? We are, for most, avid RPG fans. But a game being an RPG doesn't it's good. And TF looks like shit, I think we went over that a couple of times already. How can "nobody here like TF" (likewise how can anybody "like" it)? Nobody here has...

Ever played D&D? Well, the rules suck, as do the settings. (Except Planescape, which is pretty innovative and rockin'.) Sadly "D&D" has the rep... a completely undeserved one as (virtually) every paper RPG released since D&D's original publishing has vastly superior game mecha...

The trouble is, it's all so bloody complicated... the choices aren't even mutually exclusive. There's even an ultra-orthodox Jewish group (several, probably) who are 100% opposed to the State of Israel/Zionism on religious grounds - and support the Palestinian intifada (and indeed supported Saddam H...

Oh and between you and me, finding work on a LotR project today is like finding fish in the ocean...hell I bumped into one just the other day Much the same as online fantasy RPGs then ? :eyebrow: Although I have to admit UXO does look a cut above the others. That said, that isn't difficult. Pretty ...

Re: They Can Say This With A Straight Face??!

MAKE a really good game and the rest will come. Agreed? No. I've seen too many "great games that nobody bought" over the last ten years. Money, marketing, publicity (and ideally a franchise "name") will sell any old crap but without that developers and publishers have to do ever...

ATTENTION: BOBBIN My apologies, sir! I wrote this a while ago They obviously manipulated it by now. How pathetic can you get? Note the use of a smiley , this one :evil_laugh: to be precise. As usual that is to indicate a remark that is tongue in cheek. I only mentioned it all as normally admins ten...

It's not a new release, that box has been out for a while now? I don't think so, but I may be wrong. First time I'd seen it, and I think it's a re-release of a compilation that was released a few months after FT. For obvious reasons, I won't buy it to find out ! Anyway, it's about if any Brits out ...

Funny, I read it was #1 in the UK charts on release. Bizarro. After a little research.. the ELSPA (as near as we have to an "official" chart) for 1/11/2003 (S2 was released on 31/10) was The Sims: Makin` Magic (same release day as S2) Max Payne 2 Championship Manager 4 (we Brits love our ...

I think he worked on medal of honour? Last I checked that sold pretty well If that's the case, I shall withdraw with adequate respect. It did indeed sell like the proverbial hotcakes. BTW, contrary to what I've seen here, Carsten's comments on S2 sales (which was all he commented on) were accurate....

Which part of lead animator on UXO by EA confused you? Games, plural. You know, finished ones, on the shelves, as in the course of this discussion unfinished ones don't seem to count. I'm really kind of curious about the projects that EvoG may have sweated blood over (I'm sure he's very good.. you ...

First of all HERTSTON, why the hell are you so defensive about this? I'm not particularly. I'm just sick of some of the totally unjustified crap I see on these boards. MY POINT is that they were hired LESS because they were designers and MORE because they were designers on FO3. Are you refusing to ...

So if THATS the case, then why would SSE see value in these guys as designers but no one else does? FALLOUT 3. Exactly ! And your point is ? It's obvious that guys who had worked on Fallout 3 at BSI would be of particular interest to a company developing a post-apoc RPG and hoping to develop a Fall...

Yeah, I love a good conspiracy theory too :hahano: The guy was in need of a job. As Jeff had previously worked on the RPGs at Black Isle (including on a post-apoc RPG, canned or not) SSE thought he might be able to contribute a little more than the 1001 other unemployed games designers out there wit...

[The big problem is that Silver Style isn't like the developers I mentioned. They're set in this Franco-American style of thinking where games have to be a certain way in order to sell. The really big problem is that they are almost certainly right, certainly with regard to the US market. How much ...
