Favorite Security Bot
I thought I would see what everyone's favorite robot in FOT is. I am only including robots that could be used for old vault security. In other words, which one would you not mind fighting on a regular basis?

I like the Hover Bots the best in this capacity. They can easily be remade as the Floating Eye bots of FO. You could even give them a special type of non-lootable ammo set to Electrical damage so their prods would damage a target regardless of their armor. (Unless you do the right thing here and add an Electrical DT/DR to Tesla Armor.)
An unfortunate omission in FoT was the Brain Bot. Too bad we can't do anything about it.
Security Bots are well-suited to serving as makeshift Mr. Handys. They shouldn't be equipped w/those nasty lasers carried by Security Bots in the core campaign in this role, however. ;)
I have to say that my least favorite of the bots in FoT was the Tank Bot. I would rather have seen a tracked, turreted vehicle that packed a nasty gun than the science fantasy look that the spiked flail gave it.

I went with scurries just because they're kind of different in the ways they work. I actually think that a computer game monster that induces hate is worth much more than one that induces casual indifference.

And Scurry Bots do just that!Section8 wrote:I actually think that a computer game monster that induces hate is worth much more than one that induces casual indifference.

Scurry bots definately -- easiest ones to kill (IMO) and they're so dern CUTE!!! And thier ability to pop out of the ground is pretty neat.

Scurry Bots are great for giving a player a nasty little surprise, but they only really work in settings with natural floors, where they can hide underground until the player is right on top of them. For vault security the hover bots and security bots would work the best.

Thanks
Thanks for the replies. I had the same thoughts about the Scurry bots. Great outside security. I had also thought about using turrets and security robots for internal security. I hadn't gave the hover bots any thought due to their extreme damage, but that is unfair of my since their damage can be changed.
And I agree about the tanks and worker bots. They just seem kinda.. junky? Not something you would expect to see in an army.

Re: Thanks
Tank bots should of had a laser turret or something like OTB says, that flail has only two purposes I can think of to kill tanks or for clearing minefields. I don't remember anything about robot forces being used in WWIII and I wouldn't of thought there would be a great number of working tanks that survived. A bit of a coincidence that the one place the BOS find a tank there happens to be a tank bot lurking.[TBC]-PaladinHeart wrote:And I agree about the tanks and worker bots. On the otherhand the load lifters might not belong on the front lines but they are great for populating robot bases. Non combatants make maps feel less like they've been set up just for a specific firefight.

Re: Thanks
Flail tanks were one of many solutions used during WWII to clear mines. However, they didn't have the spiked balls on them as seen on the Tank Bot in FoT. I wouldn't be surprised if the Tank Bots were inspired by Flail Tanks, though.requiem_for_a_starfury wrote:Tank bots should of had a laser turret or something like OTB says, that flail has only two purposes I can think of to kill tanks or for clearing minefields.
Something that would have been cool in FoT would have been to have the Tank Bots essentially be robotic tanks w/a 75mm Main Gun and perhaps a coaxial machine gun. They could have been great long range fighters, but suffered from poor accuracy at short range (scoped range class) and been rather sluggish in moving.
Having to get the Tank to duke it out w/these things (as well as to replenish your 75mm ammo) would have been great, provided that the maps had been properly designed so that you couldn't simply overrun everything and anything w/the Tank.
I agree there. I wouldn't put Load Lifters just anywhere, but the warehouse area in Buena Vista is a great example of what you're talking about. IIRC there weren't any Load Lifters in the ending cinematic of the robotic assault.requiem_for_a_starfury wrote:On the otherhand the load lifters might not belong on the front lines but they are great for populating robot bases.
