help needed

Post by Duff Beer »

Hello, I've got a problem with starting fallout 2 now :S. I did the biggest install just now (I re-installed it, hoping it'd fix), I get the same error... the error is: "Running Fallout 2 requires the CD!!!". I've had the Cd in the whole time, whatsup?

thanks, Duff

What's weird though is that the game doesn't require the CD...

Try deleting fallout2.cfg and then run the game again.

Note that if you do that the music'll be gone... but right now the whole game is gone :P.

If it works (and indeed you have no music), say so and I'll tell you how to fix music then...

Just copy all the music files from the CD to the empty music files on your HDD. Change the config so everything reads stuff from the HDD, and it should be right.

See Red. I'm not just a pretty face :)

No effect, still comes up with that same warning sign :/. And I will immediatly say NO to a no cd patch. A huge install should'nt need one as red said. Btw, if this helps, its the UK version. I'll even try cleaning the disc now

Excuse my n00bness but why don't you:

Trade in the CD. It might be damaged and could have wrongly installed parts of the game.

On the other hand you could sell it to a sibling for an extorionate price and then use your profit to muy a new disc.

You don't need a no cd patch. Just use the humoungus or whatever install. It works without the cd. Nobody would be stupid enough to make a no cd patch. Righto.

i did that, and it was worth it.

otherwise, look at your Fallout2.cfg file, all the paths should point to files that are on your computer (ie. c:\programfiles\blackisle\fallout2\... etc)

if not, find that file on your comp, and copy the path into the cfg, so it doesnt use the cd.
im guessing this isnt the case, because, why would the cd be so messed up to do the wrong install?
