Feargus is indeed gone.

Post by Killzig »

[ -> N/A]

Confirming an earlier story, that's now been triple sourced and confirmed--Feargus has left the building. This ends a career with Interplay that has lasted for over a decade. Feargus has contributed to some of Interplay's most impressive work including MDK2, Fallout 2, the IWD series and the BG series.

His departure from Interplay and specifically Black Isle opens the door for a lot of questions in regards to the direction Interplay is taking the company. Given the recent rash of hires, the departure of Feargus, and the slate of games being developed by Interplay you might expect a total shift to the console market. One thing is for sure, this probably won't be the last resignation and any hopes for Fallout 3 on the PC are dimmer than ever.

We here at DAC would like to extend our best wishes to Feargus and apologize for any moments where our ranting and raving as a community might have caused him undue stress. Godspeed Feargus, hope you find your friggen cool particle effects. We expect to hear some official word from Feargus himself either later today or tomorrow.

Oh look, how quiant, it seems <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/news/news_60 ... amespot has confirmed this too.

Black Isle's Feargus Urquhart is leaving the company.

GameSpot has confirmed that Feargus Urquhart, director of Interplay's Black Isle Studios department, has stepped down and is leaving Interplay after more than five years with the company. Urquhart helped create the Black Isle Studios brand within Interplay, and the division released its first game, Fallout 2, in 1998. Black Isle Studios went on to produce such popular role-playing games as Planescape: Torment, the Icewind Dale series, and the Baldur's Gate series with Canadian developer BioWare.

5 years? Wasn't Feargus on staff for the Bard's Tale construction set? 92ish? Ah well. At least we didn't have to wait 6 months for this rumour to be proven correct.

Update: Feargus's last day will be May 12th. -StP

Maybe the odds will be better to create Fallout 3 from an independent design group instead of from BIS. Interplay could contract it out to Feargus like they did with FOT.....ok, maybe that is grasping at straws

In this case, it was those particular rats that were managing the bilge pump, keeping the ship from sinking as fast.

At this point, I've pretty much got all the info on this except the one thing I've wanted to know since I first heard about it. Why the hell did Feargus quit?

F.U. initials that every punster loves..

And if it's any measure of testimony,

I will forever associate,

Particle Effects AND Cool Particle Effects

With an Enhanced Power Armored F.O. Primary C.

Cutting the daisies and leveling the elephant grass

Gattling Lazar blazing brighter than the desert sun,

A new point light source to bedevil the shading engine,

Puny video ram over maxed, frame rate becoming cinematic,

Strobing all motion, all flailing and streaming particles

A whirlwind of stars and chromatic prismic plasma,

A kinoscope of kinetic vindication....

Perhaps we summon forth this vision by that magician's name,

Or simply call it the "F.U. Effect".

GameSpot has reported this as fact. Not terribly important, but it means that major news outlets are now acknowledging this.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

All the best Feargus - for what it's worth, I always thought you were a nice guy... the "Future of Fallout" community chat is an example of that. Good luck in the future!

Keep in mind though, Feargus, the above reply was written by a whore.

I still think Feargus should just fight Herve Caen to the death for control of BIS. Large Scot > Scrawny Frenchman

Scotland has it's own martial art. Its called, 'Fucku'. It consists mostly of headbutting, and kicking your opponent when he's down.

While on a professional level I didn't like his reasons and expressed logic, on a personal level I did appreciate that he did try to work towards another game.

Seems to be two of these fat whiteboarderasable markers.

Thankfully it's not the the writing end he's sticking up his nose to inhale the fumes... Though there's nothing saying he doesn't do that too.

Oh! How the holy hell he even manages to stick -one- big fat marker pen up one of his nostrils is beyond my comprehension. That looks fucking painful.
