NPc's Apperance
NPc's Apperance
In Fallout 2 is it possible to change your npcs apperance, Because I want to change theirs to power armor(the first one). If this is possible let me know. Thank you
edit-No, I'm sorry I mean can you change their files so they can look like they're in power armor. sorry. Thank you

No. No matter what armor they wear, they look the same. This was allegedly done to ensure that you don't confuse yourself with your party members (six people in APA packing gauss rifles start to look the same after a while), but I suspect that making their armor change would have been a bitch to do in the FO2 editor.
woohoo, me to the rescue:
its still pretty buggy, and you need to start a new game, but this patch does it!

dont yell at me if your game crashes frequently, mine does too

It's a pain in the butt but it's doable through scripts. Thing is you need 1 entity per armour per NPC per level... ouchies. And beleive you lose the whole "favortie weapon" deal, though I could be wrong.
I don't see this as a good thing anyway, I liked how they looked a bit out of place when on the Enclave... Having everyone in APA/PA kinda sucks. So I won't be speding a minute on trying to make this myself...

You could make new sprites with a lot of patience... I still don't know weteher there is a real ?->FRM converter that actually supports more then one frame though. I've heard that the GIF->FRM converter works with animated GIFs but I doubt it personally.
And you mean other then power armour right? As the helmetless PA is indeed in the game.
Oh... wait, you meant for the NPCs... Well, you could with a lot of patientce I guess.

but im asking if you could make a totally new sprite, say:
when sulik is wearing combat armor, it wont use the origional combat armor sprite, it would use a new one, that [i/someone] created.
does it support completely new sprites?
where is this gif->frm converter? and does it go frm->gif?
id like to try... er, i wouldnt know how to do the scripting part though..

No idea really... I think it's on the old TeamX site (on fallout.ru somewhre). And I don't think there's any FRM->animatied gif converter...
As for adding sprites it's just a matter of adding a little line to critter.lst (and the files which go with it). Given you're starting from a model you won't even need to bother yourself with the entire PID problem either as it's already all calculated and whatnot in the sprite you take it from.

hmm... it sounded like fun at first...
but i used your red!viewer to look at some of the *.frm files, and it looks like too much trouble than i would like to go through for such a minor change.
i might try it some other time, do you know the elevation, rotation degrees required when making new sprites for FO2?
i might get around to it when i can use 3dsMAX without my comp crashing..
thanks anyway

There is one available: http://members.fortunecity.com/noid84/utils.htmlRed wrote:No idea really... I think it's on the old TeamX site (on fallout.ru somewhre). And I don't think there's any FRM->animatied gif converter...
I don't, however, know of an animated GIF->FRM converter.

Simple search of gif2frm found it on google...
http://www.fallout.ru/projects/MOD/file ... xsnd.shtml
I have doubts as of it supporting anitmated GIF personally, but that's me... I keep getting people that tell me it can do it but I've never seen a custom animated sprite, nor even been told that it's actually been done successfully.
BUT PEOPLE KEEP SAYING IT.
I think I'll test it tonigth jsut to show'm... Where's that animated boob-anime chick thread again...

wait wait wait, mabey i missed that, WHERE is the helmetless PA? because that is pretty darned good looking PA.
hello, if your fallout idea starts with "Wouldn't it be cool", then i hate you, and i am very saddened by the fact that technology has not advanced to the point where you can reach out and touch other users, because i would strangle you.

OK, well, I did tests and indeed it does support multi-framed GIFs. I'm appaled.
I got boobies from this post. I used the script to animate the scenery items (think the TV in FO1 -- which actually ISN'T USED in FO2... probably forgot about it...) and slapped it on the converted GIF and it worked just fine.
As for the helmetless PA, it's in napowr . You'll need to edit the critter's proto to use it since none of the critter available in FO2 use it.
