Finally! The DAC review of Devastation

Post by Kreegle »

[ -> N/A]

It's a little late, but better late than never, like my postman always says! MadMaxRW has whipped-up a nice little review of Devastation, the recently-released post-apocalyptic first-person shooter. So what's our official stance on Devastation? We don't like it.
In the end I can't recommend Devastation for anybody. Singleplayer is boring, multiplayer is a gamble, and there are too many problems to make it any fun. The game comes with editors and an endless supply of goodies to help make level design easier. Unfortunately, you can't build a mod community on a weak foundation. I give the guys at Digitalo and Arush credit for listening to complaints and trying to put together something halfway decent, but at the end of the day it all comes down to whether or not they deserve the money in your pocket. Being a fan of the post apocalyptic genre is not enough.
Very true. Read more of MadMaxRW's glowing review here.

The hyped physics engine isn't too sharp. Every object larger than a bottle will sink into floors and walls. In multiplayer they don't have any mass, so you can walk right through things with no control over what direction a barrel or box will go.
This seems to be the big problem with most reviews ive read, Postal 2 physics engine isn't to good either. cars tend to stand on their bumpers after being blown up and chairs spin on one leg after being kicked.

I don't think real physics could be prefected without clipping problems, so I woul'nt blame them too much on that. I hope the stalker physics are better than what ive seen in recent games.

hey, that's my rough draft version of the review. I could have sworn I emailed the new one to you guys last week. Or maybe I forgot to send a copy to Kreegle. Yeah, I think that's it. OK I'll send it to ya right now. Sorry about that.

Looks like the full one is up now. Unless it was there all along and my eyes were doing tricks on me.
