Whats the story on stalker?

and will it be a mission after mission game or give you the freedom to go and do whatever you want?

You can supposedly go wherever and do whatever you want, but there is somekinda story going on. They haven't discussed it much, though.

I'm a bit out of date in terms of today's games and graphics but this one is absolutely amazing. If it's actually possible to run this thing on a normal computer than I'm upgading. I'm afraid that it might suck in the gameplay departament though, that's a real challenge.

if the game has coop like i heard it does it's gonna be the best thing ever... total freedom to explore.. but with other people you know would be the coolest thing ever.

mutants. not much info. the only really "mutants" in roadside picknick were people who became blind and the people who became mindless zombies who lived in a ghost town doing repetetive tasks over and over again like walking to work and back as if they were still alive.

and uh.. yeah S.T.A.L.K.E.R. should have those too.

from the screenshot it "looks" like a "dwarf" mutant. it supposedly has mental powers, you can read up on it if you want.
hello, if your fallout idea starts with "Wouldn't it be cool", then i hate you, and i am very saddened by the fact that technology has not advanced to the point where you can reach out and touch other users, because i would strangle you.

It's just a dumb critter for you to fill up with some lead.
Sometimes an atomic weapon is just an atomic weapon, ja?

From Oblivion-Lost:
Fleshs
abhorrent, tumid creautres that like to devour rats. With their peaked legs they can impale any furred creature. Stalkers are always "welcome".

In other words, what Lynxer said.

I've read somewhere that it should work pretty smooth at GF3 and above, so not that bad.

Those who want to know a lil bit bout the muties should possibly check this: http://www.stalker-game.com/_exlink.php ... 24x768.jpg
and ofcos the book, the previews, etc - for info see DAC forum :)

In the film "stalker" there was something hunting them at one point, it might have been imaginary but it would be cool to have like a physical embodiment of the zone. It would be cool to find out what killed all the tanks the ruskies sent in.

Apparently the engine requires DX8 compliant hardware, so that would make it Geforce 3 and above. Go to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. page and click on "engine." GF4 TI's are getting really cheap so I guess they qualify as "normal" computer hardware.

yeah, but how can I get it? I know you can buy it from amazon.com for 20$ and from a Russian www, and you can also rent it in the UK, but it seems it's unavailable where I live. If you (or anyone else) could like... rent it, copy it, and send it, or sth like that, I'd be REALLY grateful. paying 20$ + shipping cost is just a bit more than I can afford to see a film - I earn bout 150$ per month dammit!

damn, thanks, arent'che one sympathetic sob. My job is OK, I'm a full-time student and so I'm doing a part-time job - I get 6$ per hour; most students in Poland are happy if they get 1$ per hour.

dunno only place ive ever seen it is on Film Four a subscription arthouse movie chan on Sky in the UK.

Its not really worth it for the actual relevance to the book or the game, it is however a very good example of Russian Film at the end of the Soviet Era (its by the bloke who did Solaris).
