I checked out the Info page at Lucas Arts and the last 2 features are
Solve unique puzzles and help Ben work his way through a series of adventures to uncover a mysterious plot to destroy the town.
Interact with over 50 characters in an engaging story with humorous dialogue and plenty of action.
Basically sounds like an adventure game to me. FT had tons of stupid puzzles and people to talk to. Although, the site is a little vague. We'll have to wait for the game or at least a demo before judging it.

Tons ? I completed the game in less than 10 hours. 10 great hours, full of joy, great story and cool characters, agreed. But only 10 hours ?Mad Max RW wrote:FT had tons of stupid puzzles and people to talk to.
As for F:BOS: I feel sorry for the team as well. I mean, ok, they were stupid enough NOT to check internet and do any research at all before accepting the task, otherwise they would have known what a bunch of mean fighting machines the fallout community exists of. But, once they got into it, they have had nothing but bad reactions. Extremely bad for the morale, I can tell you that (no, I didn't work on the team - you see me making thát website ?? Ieeeeuw). But my point is: don't scream too hard. We've all got great expectations about Fallout3. Good. Now, if we scream a little harder, no other team is ever gonna want to work on another post apocalyptic game. Fallout set a very high standard, and the reaction to F:BOS is what happens when you don't meet up to that standard. So, what did the team of F:BOS do ? They threw in a bunch of 'make some quick cash' methods: including attractive (?) women, 3D action, particles, etc .. I don't like the game/idea/.. either, and I'll be the first one to send a flame mail to anyone related to the game if it indeed is a bad as we all fear. Blame Interplay. But give the team a chance.
My 2 cents.
Phil

I think this explains it:Saint_Proverbius wrote:Uh? What the hell? Why would Vault-Tec, an independent corporation contracted to the government to make civilian vaults, have the highly secret FEV virus? How could there possibly be new and improved versions when Mariposa was where the FEV virus was being worked on after it was moved from West Tech?
Great. Now they're butchering the storyline even more. The execs at Vault-Tec must have some better economic sense then the execs over at Interplay. Good move boys!Story Section: The Vault wrote:...Regardless of the U.S. government's directives, Vault-Tec was not going to submit to a lottery and live underground with a bunch of human cattle in facilities that were intentionally defective. Thus Vault-Tec created their own facilities, removed from the larger Vault network - and kept secret from the U.S. government.
Vault-Tec didn't stop there. These secret, private installations were used to research the latest vault mechanisms as well as technologies that would benefit mankind in a post-nuclear environment. This, of course, included some extensive research with FEV.
No one can say for certain how Vault-Tec obtained FEV. Some think they had it all along, gaining it in a deal with the government, others think it was stolen from the government while VT was repairing one of the more guarded vaults....
They also butchered the Flamer. Bastards.

How will VT steal it from the goverment? It was developed by West Tech.
Even if they could obtain, they didn't have the scientics or knowledge to learn about it.
Actually, all the SCUMM engine games will run under any flavor of Windows that the SCUMM VM can run on.

Don't forget Day of the Tentacle, simon I and II, legend of Kyrandia I, II and III, X-Com I & II, I have no mouth and I must scream, .. . Yeah, I probably could go on like that for weeks.Spazmo wrote:greese, get Full Throttle, get ALL the Monkey Island games, get The Dig, and get Sam & Max Hit the Road. Then, lock yourself in a box for a week and play the hell out of these fantastic games.
And FT is indeed one of the coolest and most atmospheric games ever. If only they could have made it three times as big. That would have made a huge difference in the review points awarded by the game magazines.
I remember it very well, because 'our' magazine (local Belgian one - yes, we can actually read over here) received it just before the magazine deadline. They could only play if for like 3 hours, but they were completely blown away by it. So, they gave it a whopping +90%. Everyone runs off to the shop to buy it, plays it like hell and finds out you actually can finish the game in 10 hours. And I wasn't even an experienced adventurer.
Lots of angry phone calls to the magazine's director .. and I'm quite sure there were a lot of similar situations. So, no, standards regarding the length of a game were not altered. In fact, if you look back, those old games dit a lot more with the 5 MB than what they do with it today
Cheers,
Phil
