Possibilities with FoT?

Post by Stevie D »

Hmm... all this jazz with the new Enforcer game has had me thinking. It looks like it's on us to provide the world with the Fallout 3 (or something like it) it so richly deserves.

I've played the Awaken mod for FoT for a while now and highly enjoyed it. Although the FoT engine lacks several of the basic elements that make the two RPGs what they are (the dialogue window and speech trees etc), it would seem to me that it would be pretty easy to build them into the FoT engine. Not that I could do it, but I bet someone with the proper know-how and access to the source code could do it within a very short space of time.

Is there any chance the source code for FoT could be released? IIRC, Intertwat have pretty much ruled it out for FO2, but didn't Microforte announce that there'd be no FoT2? Perhaps with that in mind, they might consider releasing the code for the first game.

Just thinking aloud here... watch me dither between FoT and FO2 editing... oh, the agony! ;)

I'm pretty sure that MF/IPLY won't release anything more than it already has for FOT. Even if they canned FOT2, if they were to release the official sprite/tile editors and/or the source code, they'd be giving up any potential for a future FOT2 or even any game based on FOT. There's also the chance that someone could use the official sprite/tile editors and/or the source code to make thier own game and sell it. Perhaps not a problem if MF/PLY could make sure they get some percentage of the game sales, but I don't see how they could.

And then we have the fact that 14 Degrees East doesn't exist anymore...

Well, here's hopin' :)

Fo' sho'! :)

I'm quite busy at the mo, but I'd love to muck in on a FoT map. Anything with 'Fallout' in the title and I'm there. So long as 'Enforcer' isn't, too. ;)

Yeah mate: josefgiven@hotmail.com still stands if you'd want me to whip up a set-piece building set. All I need is the tile-dimensions and a few details on what the piece is for and off I go. :)

Mind you, that address gets rammed hard with a good 30 spam mails a day, so it might be an idea if you could PM me with the details, or with a warning that I need to be on the look out for an incoming mail that isn't spam... ;)
