No MMORPG has successfully done those "roles" because they get shunted to the place of mules or "occasional" characters. Those activities become boring quickly.

Have you tended a bar before? I'd say that you haven't. Are you going to be an innkeeper and remain there at the inn most of the time? I guess you could if you've been lobotomized, but to pay money for that is quite absurd. You can practice that masochism on a M* sometime and see how that turns out.

Therefore, the setting of FOOL would be nothing more than hundreds to thousands of fuckhead fighter templates running around in the towns (big and small). Sure, there might be some NPCs, but like in every MMORPG, they wouldn't mean much because the player attitude and focus is nowhere near the NPCs and is hardly that because they are more interested in the player-to-player aspect of the game. That is how it has always been, even if the attitude has strayed away from role-playing.

They promise to spend only a year on this title - only a year less than the original Descent to Undermountain!

Not to mention the fact that FOOL would have to be real time and most likly wouldn't be able to use SPECIAL since I don't think it would support level treadmilling very well.

Most definitely.

Theoretically yes, but who'd want to play the poor peasant who toils day and night on a small field, only to have raiders plunder his farm and rape his wife at harvest time? And what's there to do for the typical jethead? Lying about stoned in a decrepit building all day would became boring amazingly quickly. It would be nice if the game offered all these options, but nobody would see any fun in using these options and so the game would be full of warriors, slavers and mercenaries.

I think.

You could force roles on players, limit server sizes, and enforce perma-death to keep those who want to treat Fallout like a game of Quake on a bit of a leash. But then you could also just install a decent sized multiplayer option for the next edition of Fallout but then again we come right back to the problem -- interplay doesn't have the funds to support any sort of massively online game or even an entity like Battle.Net.
The answer to your first question is shaddup.

I presume most who wouldn't be allowed to take the "fun" parts would just leave when they get bored with the "ordinary" stuff.

which would leave you with strictly roleplayers and improve the quality. Over time if you get enough of those roleplayers and the server/game become infamous for having a great RP atmosphere the gamble could pay off. Interplay can't make that gamble though.

I don't think any company would risk it, unless they were hopelessly enthusiastic & had a really big stash of $$$.

How about we all give a collective wince at the thought of a FO MMORPG & move on?

*grimaces*

hundreds of [BoS]MagnusKilla4's lined up in their power armor at the spawn point waiting for Gizmo to refresh so they can take their turn on the "kill Gizmo" quest.

They won't do that because the whole point of an MMORPG is to rake in as much cash as possible. That's why most MMORPGs are like EQ, with no PvP, no thieving, etc. Everyone is a happy little bunny with everyone else, camping the respawns so they can ride that level treadmill all the way to the top.

Unlikely. Most hardcore roleplayers would never touch a MMORPG in the first place. And the assigned roles would just end up pissing everybody off.

Let's stop discussing the idiocy of a Fallout MMORPG and the many problems involved and move on.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

The new "Babes of Steel" doesnt look good. I actually hate it, cause of the style, graphic and that they are making a shitty game and call it Fallout
