One staff member at Oblivion-Lost was lucky enough to tag along with GSC Game World at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) where they are presenting S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. While there they promise to send in daily reports directly from the event. The first report is up and briefly discusses the AI, physics engine, and other good stuff. Here’s a taste:

Let me describe the demos for you. There are quite a few of them (each takes about a minute to load). There are 3-4 demos that have just levels as they appear in the game. Two levels are pretty new and have not been shown before. Of them is a gigantic 5 sq km level of Chernobyl plant. The details of the plant are breathtaking down to the last detail. Another level has the city that we have seen some of the screens from. The city is not called Prypiat – it is an imaginary city that is created for demos. It is called ‘Sunny Way’. It has the statue in the middle and many buildings around the square. It also has life simulation.
A few comments on life simulation. As most of you know, the life simulation is one of the key promises of the game. At any given point in time lives of 100 other stalkers (not even counting animals, monsters, etc) are emulation by a state of the art real time AI engine. All of the AI happens without the main character. Whenever an NPC comes within 250 meters of the main character, the NPC AI is transferred from a simplified AI engine to a more complex engine where the main player and NPC can interact in some way: trade, talk or shoot at each other. More on this tomorrow.

You can find the rest at Redrick’s E3 report.

Does anyone remember late last year, when nVidia was hyping FX - they showed a screenshot of paint peeling off a wall. (I know, it sounds REALLY IMPRESSIVE but I don't know how else to describe it, you'll remember it if you've seen it.) Anyone know if that screenshot was from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?
Otherwise, I'm beginning to get wary of this game. So much of what's said seems right to me, there has to be a pay-off somewhere. Either that or its going to be the greatest FPS ever.

Yes, there will be multiplayer. One of the most talked about features is co-op, and it sounds really damn cool.
If you want to see a cool movie, check last year's tech trailer
