Shattered Oasis Getting Closer
<strong>[ -> N/A]</strong>
<html><body><P>The <A HREF=http://www.planetunreal.com/shatteredoasis/ target=_blank>Shattered Oasis site</A> got a big update this morning. They give a quick summary of the setting for the upcoming Unreal Tournament 2003 mod, and an explanation of each game type.</P><blockquote><B>SO-Arena</B> – A place where only the best of the best enter and only THE best exit.
SO-Arena is a fast paced 1vs1 environment that will test not only the players skill, but their wits too. If they are to survive the arena and claim they are the best of the best. Both skill and wits will be put to the limits.
<B>SO TeamDeathmatch</B> – 2 teams square off to compete with skill and tactics.SOTDM – This will test each teams ability to work as a team to eliminate the
other team. There will be no re-spawning and each team will have to fight to the death to win rounds to be victorious
<B>SO Deathmatch</B> – Not much to add other then Mayhem and killing will rule this game-type.
<B>SO- Detonation</B> – The first of our new game-types. With cunning and wit you must conquer your Opponents base. Each team has a power generator that is the object of destruction. The enemy must set the auto destruct trigger off and then the countdown begins. The other
team then has 10 seconds to reset the autodestruct to return the generator to normal state. If they do not then it detonates and the Round is won by the other team. Rounds are also won by kill counts should the timer run out.</blockquote><P>They’ve also got a couple dozen new screenshots for everybody to check out. Here's a few I thought were interesting:</P><blockquote><center><A HREF=http://www.planetunreal.com/shatteredoa ... shot13.jpg target=_blank><img src=http://www.duckandcover.net/madmaxrw/soasis1a.jpg></A> <A HREF=http://www.planetunreal.com/shatteredoa ... /shot5.jpg target=_blank><img src=http://www.duckandcover.net/madmaxrw/soasis2a.jpg></A> <A HREF=http://www.planetunreal.com/shatteredoa ... shot16.jpg target=_blank><img src=http://www.duckandcover.net/madmaxrw/so ... te><P>Last but not least the Shattered Oasis team could use an extra coder, specifically someone with experience in AI. In addition, they’re accepting further testing applications and level designers. You can read all about that at the mod’s <A HREF=http://www.planetunreal.com/shatteredoasis/ target=_blank>homepage</A>.</P></body></html>

Well, yeah it all looks Dune-style (how bout some Fremen blue eyes?) <if you mean THIS Dune, MadMax
>
And yeah, I've considered this nurse ridiculous from the 1st time I saw her model some time ago.
Anyway, taking into consideration the possibilities that the 'Unreal Warfare' engine gives to the gamemakers and the general style and atmosphere of the sshots (=>game) this should be a really worthwhile game among the FPSs, especially if you're looking for pure action.
These guys'd better make haste as Stalker and HL2 are coming up - both with multiplayer modes.

Thx all for the comments
I'll pass them along to the guys they are really working hard to get this one out without comprimising quality.
HL2 is due September and I'm not sure about Stalker
But we are aiming to have first public release Before Epic's MOTY contest which opens End of June early July. Now don't hold me to those dates but we are desperatly trying for them.
As for dune buggies =)
For Second release we plan to implement rideables =)
(*cough* Animals & Vehicles *cough* -you didn't hear that from me though =) )

Was that a nuke? I dont have UT2k3, but this looks cool. I like the game modes, they sound like fun.
Theres a mod out called Urban Terror...I play it a lot... anyway, you might want to check that out if you have time... just to see some of the things you can do as a player... like climbing, and being able to jump and catch ladders, and climb up all sorts of things like pipes and stuff... It could work well in a post-apoc setting, take advantage of height from old buildings and stuff. You can climb all over the place... lets you get into postions others dont look for untill its too late. Sounds like you guys want tactics to be a big part of your game... thought you might like it.

Yeah, i find quake limited in some respects... as far as UT2k3 goes tho, (for me) I didnt feel like shelling out the cash for a game that looked like UT + physics - assault. Most of the weapons are pretty much the same too. I think I might pick it up when 2k4 comes out, sounds like its is adding a lot of cool stuff.
But now with HL2 coming out... damn, i'll prob get sucked into that... I'm even reconsidering buying doom 3, since it almost seems like empty graphics next to HL2... know what i meen?

Ya every game will have their good points and their band points though
I think in the end it'll come down to what the modders feel most comfortable using.
For us we found our home with UT. we may move to a diff engine in the future but I highly doubt it as we are spending the time to learn the engine inside and out.
Modding with any engine takes a certain amount of dedication and I admire any modder who takes on a project and finishes it. It says a lot about them as a person and a team.

Is it just me, or do those models look a *lot* like the Cavefish from Full Throttle......?
Looks interesting, I hope it's really fun as well to play.
I've played waaay too many mods that are beautiful, well thought through, but just... not... fun!
I'm definately reinstalling UT2K3 to try it out when a release is out. =)
