Badland Paused For Now

Post by Mad Max RW »

[ -> N/A]

Kruddman of the post apocalyptic Battlefield 1942 mod Badland posted an update explaining what has been going on and the future of the mod.

If you haven't noticed we haven't updated for a gagillion years.

BADLAND is obviously on hiatus. We were in the middle of a merger but RL issues have gotten in the way. There's still a plan to make BADLAND, but it has drastically changed.

What's still the same is that BADLAND will be a very gritty, realistic and violent first person shooter filled with tons of weapons and hard case characters.

Anyway we will be back but definitely not for Battlefield 1942. This means this site'll probably go down. Since my personal website's host is also down (giborama.com) BADLAND will probably dissapear from public view. But we'll be back eventually and try to make our location known.

There you have it. I wish Kruddman and the rest of his team the best of luck.

I'd like to know if this is merging with an unannounced UT2k3 mod or something else.

Aw, nuts! All the good mods are going to UT2k3. Don't people realise they'll just have to port it to UT2k4 and 2k5 and 2k6 and...?
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

They won't need to port it to every release because stuff is compatible both ways. Things from UT2k3 will work on 2k4 and things from 2k4 will work on 2k3. It's the same game just extra crap.

That's good for modmakers, but horrible for the gamer, unless I'm misunderstanding this. Are future UTs just the previous year's game with the various odds and ends that have been added during the year, allowing new arrivals to the game to get everything without spending a month downloading patches?

Yeah, that pretty much sums up UT2k4. Although, they claim to offer rebates or something (possible free download) to people who already bought the game the first time around. It looks cool, though. The tanks, jeeps, hovercrafts, and space fighter dealies would make for some interesting gameplay.

About future UTs they plan on making a new one every few years, not every year like Madden and other sports games.
