'Instant Death' Criticals
Just one small observation about fighting deathclaws:
I noticed that when fighting deathclaws, even the lesser deathclaws, they never seem to die by an 'instant death' critical (i.e. creature was hit for damage less than its current HP, but 'unfortunately, his spine is clearly visible from the front'), even when your character has the Better Criticals perk without the Heavy Handed trait. All other tough creatures like Floaters, Centaurs, Fire Geckos, Bounty Hunters, Robbers in caves, and Mutated Mole Rats are susceptible to instant death criticals. In some cases, though never experienced myself, I have heard of player characters getting killed by an instant death critical. What causes a deathclaw, or any creature for that matter, to be 'immune' to instant death criticals?

'Instant Death'?
Did your character have more than 77 HP when the guard bursted you for that much damage? If so, do you remember what the accompanying message said (i.e. 'You were critically hit for 77 HP and ...')?
Or did you die because you had fewer than 77 HP before he bursted at you? If thats the case, then I don't consider that as an 'Instant Death' critical, but rather as a regular death (regular in that you died because you lost all your hit points, which is the way that most critters in FO2 normally die).

*cough* It's your ear. The Masticator bites it off when he scores a critical. You lose 1 CH when that happens... Sucks, but that's the truth. Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?Rama Stryfe wrote:nothing beats a crtical to Masticator and keeping his ear, for all item horders that is... if its a white ear, thats yours and say bye-bye 1 charisma. if its a black one, thats the masticators. i dont know if this does anything other than make you happy because your like mike.
i thought that there was some way to kill a deathclaw with critical eye shots. because after all, almost all NPC's who know anything about the deathclaw tell you that its eyes are this and that, etc...
did you try eye shots?
