Broken Down Power Armour, what's the deal?

Post by SuperH »

I just scanned through the forums to see if this has been brought up before... sorry if it has been though...

What's up with the one loading screen, showing a tribal wearing a supremely messed up PA helmet? Is that in the game anywhere? I've never seen it myself... could it be a broken quest, or something completely uninmplemented, or just pointless fluff?

Just wondering if anyone knew anything about it. It's always bugged me a little... heh, might be a nice addition for the FO bible, if it hasn't been in already.

I don't think that there's any official word on it. It's not in the game, presumably it was done either cause it looked cool, or to show how the world has moved on, how the technology that was in Fallout is starting to fall apart and be used for other things. No wait that can't be it, there's more technology in FO2 than in Fallout. :? My favorite explanation I've seen is it's what remains of the suit of power armour the Vault Dweller got from the Brotherhood, sort of to explain why you don't start the game with any of the Vault Dweller's equipment from the end of Fallout.

I remember discussing it but don't remember anything official about it, other then it's just "load screen art" so to speak.

This pic you mean? I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's just concept art. Or maybe there's a hidden easter egg we haven't found yet, who knows...

EDIT: found another pic of it.

I don't think it's concept art exactly, they typically don't fully render concept art into 3d unless they plan on using it. If it's just a loading screen, for ambience, then that's peachy, that's the use they rendered it for. I wonder what it was supposed to be, in concept, anyway?

It could have been a pre-war Power Armor lying in sand, then found and decorated by a group of tribals. It clearly isn't operational, so there wouldn't be any use of it if found.

exactly.

bad reference: like in waterworld how the main charactor wears ski boots, they are impractical and ancient, but they are still shoes.

Yeah, I understand that, I was just wondering what part it would have played in the story. It's obviously an ancestral relic of some sort, I wonder if it was supposed to go with some of the other tribals, like sulik's town that was never implemented or maybe your rival?

Heh, that's a long shot, but one can always speculate. We don't know much about Sulik's town since it was never implemented, and your rival seemed to advance both weapon- and armorwise as the game progressed(according to FOB), so it would've been funny if he'd been carrying a power armor right from the beginning. I suggest you send that pic to MCA and let him answer this question in his next Fallout Bible update.

i bet its just a loading screen, the tribal and his PA helmet probubly have no relation to the story, but do fit into the theme/feel of the game. nothing related to the story itself.

dont go looking for it ingame anyway, because if it was there it would be found by now.

Hmm that seems t obe a "photoshop'ed" version of the first, with the oil platform as background. no dirt on vasikkA, just a thaught

I'm pretty sure that's just an explanation for why you don't get power armour and a plasma rifle at the beginning of FO2. All the parts from the Vault Dweller's stuff has been cannibalized over the years for various purposes.

And don't expect any more FOBs anytime soon. With MCA gone, I don't think anyone's going to do them.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Or rusted beyond belief, like that M82 you find in that TeamX mod. Bear in mind that tribals aren't the best at caring for sophisticated firearms and armor for a period of nearly a century.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

I'm pretty sure the Fallout Bible already delt with this issue. It was originally going to be to the cover art for FO2.
