Shadow Vault Announced
[ -> N/A]

I just got word that Mayhem Studios announced their latest title, Shadow Vault, a post apocalyptic turn-based strategy game. Apparently they’ve been working on it for the past two years. Here is the game’s synopsis spotted at Blue’s News:

The sky is blackened by dark clouds and planet Earth is nearing its sad end. Human, a creature so inventive, has already tried all the possibilities to avoid his doom. Unsuccessfully. Only one way still remains - a time tunnel leading back to the year 1958. Contingent, the new world's government, didn't hesitate and jumps into the tunnel with a great army to fight against their own ancestors. Gain the planet at any cost. The primacy of the contingent's modern units is extensive but the situation changes rapidly and the red sun rises above the planet. Nuclear war is in the air, a war that no-one expected. There is no way back and both sides are forced to continue fighting.
Game features:

Turn based strategy that gives the player the possibility to use and improve various special abilities of his units.
Stylish, "nuclear war in progress" environment.
Epic story and dynamic storyline that accompanies the player throughout the entire game.
High level Artificial Intelligence
Intuitive game rules placing emphasis on the strategic experience
20 game levels
30 units and characters
40 different actions that can used during the game
36 abilities and character improvements

Mayhem Studios also released <A HREF=http://www.bluesnews.com/screenshots/ga ... /20030608/ target=_blank>several screenshots from Shadow Vault. You can expect to see it in stores Q3 2003 only for the PC. Thanks to Mr. C for the tip.

Just glanced at one of the screenies. Everything just looks too....big.
Maybe it's just me from too many years of playing Battle Isle, but I like my TBS map views expansive, putting more emphesis on what you can see easily (and sometimes overlook).
The modols look like they could use alot more work too, as the backround looks nicish, but the units are just ugly.
Plot sounds like crap too.

I just wonder about the proportion of TBS Vs RPG. Anyway, 50's, post-apoc, etc - sounds and looks quite cool. We'll see. Yeah, evrth look quite BIG.
BTW I've just seen 'Forbidden Planet' (it was actually Shakespeare's 'Tempest' set in the future)
I guess You would find their 'Robby' definitely more 50s-style than the notorious Gasbot![icon_razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

wait, didn't someone post this robot smwhere before? But I guess it was a book cover. Or a poster.
Damn I get the feeling that sb is gonna scold me :/

Yeah, robbie the robot was on Lost In Space once, after he got mad popular in Forbidden Planet. Forbidden Planet is a great movie though, that monster thing used to scare the CRAP out of me when I was a little kid... my dad would always play that movie for me, heh...
Anyway, I donno the game doesn't look too thumbs up to me. Like other people have mentioned, I don't like the scale. Also, if "going back in time and killing your ancestors" is the last chance for humanity, then they f'd things up a whole helluvalot. Seems like a nice recipie for self-destruction, that.

I have a saying when it comes to time travel... "Dont Fuck with the 4th Dimension." Its rarely done right, and IMO you never really could do it right... cause as soon as some one time travels, an infinate paradox will be created and everything goes boom! I'm just talking out of my ass, but that what i think!
Against the grain

Yeah, gotta love it. If you go back in time to change something, you've nullified your whole reason for going back in the first place.. So.. That's basically the case we're presented with. They're going back in time to fight their ancestors, which is really, really problematic. Not only are you left with the above problem, but you also have the grandfather paradox in play too.

Karma In Reverse
Karma In Reverse
Does karma have a reverse gear? Do the mechanics of, "what goes around comes around" and "keep doing it until you do it right", apply on all points of the temporal axis?
Will there be an accounting for things done, and done-undone, and undone-done-undone?
This time shift for patricide poses a hereditary dilemma; a complication of the Edipus Complex?
Wow a chance to be your own grandpa! Song about that? Hook line: ""I'm my own Grandpa...""
TERMINATOR time travel plot basis?
Will the TERMINATOR movie series ever abate?
Famous dead rappers, hip hop, ""If you don't stop then we won't stop.....""
