JE Sawyer on Fallout 3 being IWD3
Planescape: Torment did the exact opposite. That's why it turned out to be good.Spazmo wrote:I had a little fun with the IWD games, even if I got fucking tired of IWD2 at the end. The problem with those games is that they try to be, basically, story-light and combat-heavy BG. However, since BG is already story-light and combat-heavy, you end up with not enough and too much.

True, Torment was quite good. It had a lot of exelently written dialogue that brought the interaction level up, the story while cliched was interesting, combat was spase but not sparse enough that you got bored, and they really got the setting right. In a lot of ways thats how I'd like to see FO3 come out buecause that combination of things was what really stood out for me in Fallout but games like FO2 and Tactics seemed to lack.
planescape was ok. a little too much reading. and the game is too linear. almost more of an adventure game than a rpg. once u pass one stage, u move on to another, and if u didnt build ur char up enuff for the next stage ur kind of fucked. personally id like to see a dark sun sequel rather than another planescape game.
OH NOEZ!!! READIGN! Certainly not fun for you illiterate or semi-literate folks, I guess, but a good addition for those who can.peasofme wrote:planescape was ok. a little too much reading.
Uhm kinda like BG?peasofme wrote:and the game is too linear. almost more of an adventure game than a rpg. once u pass one stage, u move on to another, and if u didnt build ur char up enuff for the next stage ur kind of fucked.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Well, combat was concentrated only for some levels. It didn't help the fact that PS:T had worse combat than any other IE game. PS:T was linear, sure, but it still offered several ways to play the game, the different choices in dialogue alone are worth mentioning. PS:T had perhaps the best dialogue in games ever. The rest was sort of lacking(except for the atmosphere), which made playing a non-dialogue character less enjoyable.

wow, finally people come out to criticize planescape. usually its just a bunch of fanboys saying stfu if u say anything critical about it. u cant have it both ways. either u support criticism of games or u dont. this site bashes interplay for shutting down the forums cause of criticism but yet they bash anyone who has something critical to say.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the game. The atmosphere, the interactions, it was great in a lot of areas. The first time you really get into a game, and you aren't just clicking a mouse and watching a screen anymore is a really incredible time. You forget where you really are, what you're doing, and you ignore most of the game's flaws. You're really into the game.
With the Fallouts, and Arcanum I felt like that the entire way through once I got into them. Even though Torment was in many ways better than these games -- I have to agree that the dialog is the best I've seen -- the combat elements were so awful that it ruined the feeling for me. I never did finish it, even though I became engrossed in the game like I had with Fallout.
