Leading S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan site Oblivion-Lost got word of some news updates regarding GSC Game World’s upcoming survival/horror action RPG. First up are the highlights from a translated interview at Gamedev.ru:

* trips into the zone will be quite lengthy, so there will be many objects that the player will find in the zone and use during the trip. The more precious the object, the less you will see it in the zone. There will be also
special artifacts that will be unique and will be worth the time and the search for them.
* physics engine is used for telekinesis. You can grab a corpse's leg and drag it behind you - again physics engine is used
* At the moment, GeForce 2 graphics cards are out. GSC made Stalker work with, but the market is too small to justify having yet another renderer. They may reconsider.
* The screenshots from DX8 renderer have 300K-1.2M polygons.
* Level loading is done at certain points and is noticable. It is not done
in the background. It is one of the things that developers listed as unrealistic about the game (as compared to real life).
* No snow in the game
* Article talkes a lot about specifics of DX8 and DX9 renderers, level modeling, etc. On average a model has 7000 pologyons. There are also details on the physics execution. For example, an average body has 50 bones in it.
* GSC team (6 programmers, 6 level designers, 4 modelers, 3 animators, 2 game designers, 1 writer, 1 sound programmer)
* One week from now the new trailer will be released.

Next GSC Game World explains why they chose THQ as their publisher:

Yes, there are companies that are ranked higher than THQ. But we picked THQ and here is why.
1. This is one of top 5 publishers in the world. They are ready to market this game worldwide.
2. THQ is trying to break into the new for them market, PC games. They will work extra to make this happen. This is not "yet another PC game for to make money quickly".
3. This will be number 1 PC project for them. If we went with UbiSoft for example, we would be 3rd after Splinter Cell and Far Cry.
4. Agreeable conditions for us.
We didn't go with EA because they have hard conditions. "We are the best pubsliher in the world, so the developer has to work for free, just because they are working for us".

If you hate reading check the PCGames magazine screen shots. They’re not the clearest of pictures, but still look good.

=D wicked.* physics engine is used for telekinesis. You can grab a corpse's leg and drag it behind you - again physics engine is used
Thank god... otherwise we'd never receive STALKER... looks like Farcry wont be done til 3000...3. This will be number 1 PC project for them. If we went with UbiSoft for example, we would be 3rd after Splinter Cell and Far Cry.
No surprise there...4. Agreeable conditions for us.
