Fallout Enforcer preview of fun!

Post by Saint_Proverbius »

<strong>[ -> Preview]</strong>

<A href="http://www.gamers.com/">Gamers.com</a> has posted up their <a href="http://www.gamers.com/game/1333715/previews">fresh, hot preview of love</a> for <i>Fallout Enforcer</i>, having such wonderful things as:
<br>
<br><blockquote> Cuevas says NPC interaction is more than just "accepting quests and fetching objects. You can trade with the town merchant, get a drink from the bartender, sleep with the prostitute, piss off the mayor, lie to the doctor, collect junk for the engineer (who will assemble it into a weapon), and so on."</blockquote>
<br>
<br>Look ma, I'm buying a drink! I'm <i>interacting!</i>
<br>
<br><blockquote>At the beginning of the game, players can select from three initial characters--with a few more to be unlocked later on--all with the goal of joining the Brotherhood Of Steel, righting wrongs, and kicking heads in left-and-right.</blockquote>
<br>
<br>Funny, I don't remember the <i>Brotherhood of Steel</i> being anything remotely like that in <a href="http://www.interplay.com/fallout">Fallout</a>.
<br>
<br><blockquote>Cuevas describes the third character as "sort of special," and opts to keep it a surprise; considering past Fallout titles have allowed for ghouls, super-mutants, robots, deathclaws, and even dogs, chances are the third character is not even human. </blockquote>
<br>
<br>It's the <i>spell using ghoul</i>. Come on, previewers, try and keep up.
<br>
<br><blockquote> "You'll meet lots of friendly characters and allies, some of which may join you for portions of the game or simply act on the same side as you," Cuevas says. During one mission where the player gets wounded, he'll need to follow an NPC to safety while successfully avoiding the critters in the area. </blockquote>
<br>
<br>Oh boy, the old <i>scripted, unavoidable wounding of the player</i> routine. These guys are master game designers, aren't they?
<br>
<br><blockquote>Many of the original game's enemies are still muckying around the gameworld, along with newly invented foes such as weird radioactive beetles and ghouls hopped up on drugs and loaded with dynamite. </blockquote>
<br>
<br>I think they should rename this game to <i>FALLOUT: GHOUL JIHAD 2157</i>, don't you?
<br>
<br><blockquote>These include assaulting a base, escorting NPCs, tacking down specific items, and assassinations.</blockquote>
<br>
<br><b>Gareth</b> loves <i>escorting the NPC</i> missions.
<br>
<br>Now, here's the best part, boys and girls, <a href="http://www.gamers.com/">Gamers.com</a> lets you enter <a href="http://www.gamers.com/userreview/1333715/create">what YOU think about this</a>. Isn't that nice of them? I think so. The average user hype score is now <b>4.8</b> and dropping!

Of the many features the Fallout series is famous for--a sly sense of humor, the melding of '50s-style artwork with a post-apocalyptic setting, and flexible character development--the one that gamers remember most fondly is the ability to sleep with prostitutes, pre-Grand Theft Auto 3.
Is this a fucking joke?

Saint, I'm surprised you didn't mention this quote in your post. This is the first sentence of the review on Gamers.com. Sadly, I think Chuck actually believes what the guy is saying. It makes me think that Chuck never even played either Fallout.

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. Frankly, there's just so much wrong with that fucking preview, I didn't feel like filling the page with how awful the whole thing is.. But saying Fallout's big deal was screwing hookers really is fucking over the setting, big time.

The hype from Fallout Enforcer is going to seriously screw up Fallout 3 for anyone that doesn't know better.

look like the reviewer knows what he's talking about:
(Not to be confused with the PC's RPG Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel.)
:roll:
Without evil there would be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes!

Only 2,9 now... The preview is kinda disappointing though, he basically just rehashed some Cuevas quotes.

I was going to post something there but by the time I finished it I realized that you had to be a member on the site and Im sure as hell not going to join a site that supports fobos. It blanked out all my really colorfull explatives anyway and screwed up my major points.

You know what the worst thing is though? The fact that the blacked out character model for the third character on the main site resembles in a way the Vault Dweller. Now tell me that would not be the biggest bastardization of all.

Long time DAC board lurker...finally posting...
I had to create an account there to tell them how much Enforcer is going to suck.

It's so sad that it's almost not funny. I swear the team working on this didn't play the previous games or even bother to read the FO bible. Why do they keep saying that the Brotherhood of Steel are like the sheriffs of the wastes and roll into town and bring order? It's like the only fallout thing they know is the end of Fallout Tactics, the least successful part of the series.

It blows my mind.

They did read the Fallout Bible; they just used it to wipe their ass, instead of making the game according to it. If you read the official website, pieces of text lifted directly from the Fallout Bible are occassionally visible among the bullshit.

And here are the game translations:
trade with the town merchant - loot his dead body
get a drink from the bartender - loot his dead body
sleep with the prostitute - you can jump on her dead body
piss off the mayor - urinate on his dead body
lie to the doctor - kill him
collect junk for the engineer - unload a full clip into him

TBh i dont think they misunderstand the setting in the previous fallout games, its just they seem to misunderstand the market they are selling the game to.

They are seemingly trying to capture the infamous casual gamer market of the late 90s on the ps1, which has since become far more demanding. Shagging prostitutes as a game feature was big news 6 years ago, now it could be construed negatively by your average joe in a games store.

But you cant expect much more creative thinking from Interplay employees, like making a good intelligent game can make it a best seller.

Cuevas describes the third character as "sort of special,"
It just damned well better not be Harold. Whenever you hear about Harold it's all about, "Harold is special." Well now the 3rd character, who is a ghoul, is "sort of special." Maybe he's Harold's long-lost great nephew's brother's evil twin? Sounds right on par with Team Chuck's ingenious brand of creative writing.
