Well... the cars remind me of VWs:/ Did any of the concept art for the original Fallout ever get released, and was this guy the guy that made it? It seems like he doesn't really know too much about '50s atmosphere, though the stuff does look semi-retro...

Also, that armor on the Wasteland guy reminds me more of the Metal Armor from the original Fallouts than any Power Armor.

Nice pics.

Are those some sort of bio-chemical suits?

Ahah. Maybe they should use him for FO3, then:p

EDIT: Then again, there seems to be only one even remotely PA pic there. The rest is fantasy... Maybe he isn't the best one, either:/ Unless he has more stashed away (which he probably does) I don't think he would have been the guy to do all the FO concept art... Then again, I'm probably wrong.

Rather neat technique and even though there isn't a 50ish style it doesn't have any recognizable influence other than the idea of PA. Even the level of tech is too vague to pinpoint. It seems like a very good start.

i dont really mind if it lacks the '50s feel as long as it is uber post-apoc. mmm, the apocolypse is a very cool subject.

the art is pretty good, but it lacks something, maybe it's too serious, too realistic, the fallout universe was a bit caricatural in a way, like those cheesy sci fi tv shows in the 50s. that part is missing. but still, it aint the final art, maybe its not even fallout.

Doesn't the star on the car mean communism? I think the commys made a lot of little cars like that, but I dunno if that was during the 50s.

The star is for Poesideon Oil no? Probably wrong and I'll get flamed for that. Oh well. Denver? Are they trying to make this a rip off of the rip off FOT? It still looks cool though, just not fallout. It just doesn't have that feel.

God damnit, the pictures aren't displaying. The thumbnails don't work, and clicking on them doesn't work... I really want to take a look at these, does anyone have them on their hard drive? If so, could you please post them in a reply here?

Thanks in advance.

FOT had a good basic idea that was done real badly. Those aussies didn't realize that all of the us isn't a desert, and not everywhere wouldn't be after a nuclear war... being in the eastern midwest, especially by the great lakes, there still should have been some green, but it was all desert in FOT. Seems the bombs moved the earth's axis and changed weather patterns like nobodies business.

Anyway, as for the pics, I love them. The fist there is definately anime-y, but the rest is a+. The cars stranded on the highway is perfect post apoc, that's really tremendous and I can only hope something like that gets into the game. The balloon suits are good too, because they definately have a bit of a retro feel to them. No sleekness there.

Heh, I do think they're dead too, that's what struck me as I saw it, those guys died in there and were semi-preserved floating in thair plastic coffins. Excellent.

To whoever said it, I agree, it isn't The Fallout Feel that the pictures have, but it's definitely very fucking cool and that's enough for me. These pictures are just oozing atmosphere, and that's what did it for me in the original Fallout, not pondering on whether the knobs on that field radio are the model they started making in 1972 or not.

I hope that now that they have a more robust engine, they'll take full advantage of the visual stuff you can do with it. There's nothing like seeing the rusty orange beams of sun shine through a single window in a chilly abandoned factory.

Woah, that was pretty gay now wasn't it.

Try the no mutants allowed link. They have them stored locally, and they work for me there.

Mad Max RW wrote:Not entirely true. Ford made a lot of smaller 2-doors back then. The painting with the vehicle sitting ontop of the pillar looks a bit like a Volvo, which began exporting to the US in the 1950s.
Not true, Captain Elf Porn. While Volvo did export, their cars were still large and bulky and even followed the streamlined look of the times:

Now, refer back to the picture in question, which shows more 1970s style, "boxy" modelling.

Now, Ford did make some VANS in the 1950s which looked similar to that, but if you'll look at the car in that picture, it's got the rear door missing, which should provide a sense of scale - it's not a van. Oh, and those Vans, like the Ford Thames, were made for the foreign markets.

Actually, it would be.. Fallout used the 1950s idea of what a post nuclear world would be, which would be a scorched earth type situation. The earth would be much warmer for a long, long, long time due to all the nuclear heat from the blasts.

Of course, I'm not sure the Aussies knew that either, given the snowy locations in the game.

I might point out that the links are broken... but I already saw everything on NMA. At any rate, #3 (the cluster of buildings) is pretty inspiring for Fallout 3, and the rest speak volumes as well. Perhaps that '50s culture has evolved? At any rate, this stuff is a much-needed shot in the arm for Fallout 3 after JE has announced his plans for it.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

The sharp point sprongy things kinda makes it remind me of metal armor.

Well the last picture i feel is a tad retro, the suits are very bulbous and dont look anything like the ones you see in your generic disease outbreak x-files episode.

They also have those vault tec style belts and colour.

The closer guy in a suit on the last pic is kind of see-throught, anyone noticed?
