28 Days Later Alternate Ending

Post by Mad Max RW »

<strong>[ -> N/A]</strong>

<html><body><P>According to <A HREF=http://scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.htm ... 10.00.film target=_blank>Sci Fi Wire</A>, the darker alternate ending to the zombie flick <I>28 Days Later</I> will start showing in theaters along with the regular version. Here&#8217;s the scoop:</P><blockquote><em>In an unusual marketing move to pump up the buzz surrounding its horror hit 28 Days Later, Fox Searchlight will attach the film's original, downbeat ending to all 1,400 prints now playing in theaters, the Los Angeles Times reported. Although outtakes, filmmaker narration and alternate endings have become an expected part of DVD movie packages, Fox Searchlight says it is aware of no other instance in which alternate scenes were added to a film still in theatrical release, the newspaper reported.</em></blockquote><P>And finally&#8230;</P><blockquote><em>The darker ending, which already appears as a feature on the British DVD of the film, will appear beginning July 25 at the conclusion of the credits.</em></blockquote><P>I guess I&#8217;ll have to check this one out after all.</P></body></html>

sounds cool, a bold move! Perhaps i will go see it again.

***SPOILER****

Maybe the can edit the scene where the 4 of them stop for the night in that farm field... with the horses... You would think they would be smart enough to not light a camp fire that night....duuuuhhhhh!!!

(I know it wont happen, so dont bother telling me)

Heh thats a ruined monstary near Oxford its in the middle of no where. The chances of an infected randomly running around the countryside (as opposed to running around a city or a suberb) is unlikely.

The ironic thing is Boyle changed the alternate ending to the current one because of the American market.

The alternate one is far better (well one of them is depends which one they put on the film).

No, even then the movie theater pwns (so long as you don't have to sit beind stupid/fat/tall/ugly/loud/obnoxious/smelly people). But if that's not an issue, then the movie theater is easily superior to the home version. Plus you get to go 'out', instead of sitting inside your home.

No one has a better home cinema set up than me and i say GO!

Seriously the transfer from HI8 to DVD does this film NO favours and removes most of the impact some of the scenes have. Also some ffects that worked superbly on 35mm are completely lost or aggrivate the eye on DVD.

No its not the world is fucked, its just that (The one i think it is) Jim dies after getting shot and Selina tries to save him in a disused hospital but he doesnt come back. Then they (selina and young bird) pick up their guns and walk off "accepting their fate".

Sounds moronic.
Just why did they make *that* ending...?
I mean that kind of ending kind of gives you a sour taste in the mouth, doesn't it?

What the fuck were they thinking when they made the alternate ending?

***NOTE - tried to make it as spoiler free as possible***

"Well. They've shot a lot of the blabla's and the hmmhmm's and driven away from that place where they shot all those things and where they
were shot themselves, so they've been through hell in what? 2-3 hours of a movie? Yes...
hmm... Reward? No fuck the reward, let's make the main-character die and let them wander off with no explanation whatsoever of the future
holds in store for them. Yes... that's cheaper! And it'll make people be a little creative for themselves, wont it.
Hand me that bong will you? Thanks."

Its not cheaper its just a typical british ending, they shot the new ending to appeal to the american market it appears however that they thought that the original ending was superior.

The film only had a 17 million quid budget they did well with what they had. The original endings a hell of a lot better than that Swedish Airforce flyby.

Precisely.

I wonder, though, does this news only apply to the USA or the whole world?

Strange... So this ending where they walk off into the unknown, which countries got to see that?
I mean, I saw it in the theater and I downloaded it when it was unavailable in the theaters. Both end "happy".

Edit: Oops, nope. Turns out the current ending was actually the original, then they ditched it still during production, but eventually changed their minds and eventually went with the original ending after all.

It was a rather disappointing ending for me, though.

Well ive got the screenplay and the current endings not the original!

The one your thinking of is the "chicken ending" where they are in the house and theres a plane but no Jim.
