Lots of good fun indeed, spotted this over on <a href="http://www.nma-fallout.com" Target=_blank>NMA</a> though the original source can be found on <a href="http://forums.interplay.com/viewtopic.p ... highlight=" target=_blank>thread</a>.

Looks like they have aquired it, according to NMA...
For those of you who remember mr Brian Fargo, the old president of Black Isle, will be glad to hear that his new company called InXile have bought the rights to Wasteland (the game Fallout is based on). So it looks like good old Fargo will develop both Bards Tale and Wasteland, some good old games.

How much would it cost to renew or reacquire the license anyway?

probably not alot, considering that anyone at interplay or its subsidiaries that worked on wasteland has already been fired.

Probably a whole fuckload of money since Interplay doesn't own Wasteland, EA does, and EA are a bunch of money-grubbing assholes.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Can't imagine what they'd possibly do with that licence - the possibilities are endless - but whatever happens will at least be OK, I think.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

hey, InXile sounds like the opposite to Exile to me :) , so this means that Fargo is back in business. Certainly alot of things happened when Van Buren was unveiled.

I was told by, let's see, Chris Taylor? that Interplay owns the rights to Wasteland game, and EA only published it, so theoretically they could've made Wasteland 2. Don't know the details.

EA owns the rights to Wasteland, that`s why the Fallout setting was created in the first place

Yeah on the Fallout box it says something about Wasteland, then at the bottom it says that Wasteland is owned by EA and whatnot.

Other people have alluded to it, but you have it backwards. Fargo was involved in the development of Wasteland, but EA actually owned the license.

Another thing I've never understood is what happens to a licence when a company dies or is a company preannounced dead when it has no licences and no money?

I believe that it is still somehow attached to that company for a set amount of time (years). Then after said amount of time expires, it becomes public domain. I'm probably wrong, but I think I remember that much from my entertainment law class.
