Multiplayer Coop

Post by dAVE mAN »

From what I hear it is possible to make single player style missions for multiplayer in Tactics. You know, multiple players against AI enemies. What I want is the SP campaign as a coop game.

So what would I need to do to have this work? I tried coping a mission to the mp map directory and playing a game (this isn't exactly everything I did to get it to 'work', but it's not really important) but it is always horribly out of sync and none of the enemies have their inventories nor can allied NPCs talk to the PC's.

Is there some simple thing I need to do?
Did anyone out there make coop maps out of the single player maps already?

The only way to do something like a MP coop game is to have all the characters, enemies, etc run by the players. There were a few maps made by SonicTHI along these lines and the gamemaster controls the enemies while a few players battle them. I never played those games but I assume it has to have plenty of rules that the players must follow for it to work. It is nothing like playing a SP map so give up on that idea.

couldn't you just get 3 computers, 2 for you and your buddy, and then use the third just sitting there with all his men (the "computer" ones) set on agressive mode? they wouldn't run in and attack you, but they would still shoot back while you and your friend played.
(all using one of the maps that has already been altered to support attackers and one defender with all the level's enemies.)

That woule be the way to go in theory.....but I don't think you could set up a third computer to be computer controlled. I think a human would have to control them but it may be worth a try.

I've played coop in mp and you can just put down AI guys on another team and they don't have to be controlled by a PC. The critical flaw here. Is no matter what. The game goes out of sync. So it's not a practical idea at all. I know some fallout gurus might be like "Ohhh no, you've screwed with something and that's why it's out of sync." No. I've played fallout tactics coop with ai on a network with completely unadulterated copies of the game installed and weird things still happened. Like one guy seeing my guy appearing somewhere when I'm not there. Or I could see a human player be attacked and killed by many ai guys but he was never there and he was never killed on his screen.

So pretty much abandon all hope of getting coop to work. Unless someone knows how to fix that. It's impossible.

I'm focusing on crafting my single player experience to the most enjoyable it can be. Multiplayer gets boring really quick.

too bad there isn't some way to take the single player function and somehow make an entity (?) take commands from outside the game, ie, another computer on a lan that is running FOT also (possibly the same program, but remotely) that would be cool. too bad it's impossible.

mmm... fallout coop is one of the coolest things i could immagion.

A online Fallout game would be freaking cool =). Of course, I think it would be very hard to make it good... make it Fallout, and not just another massive multiplayer online game. You know.
