Caliber changes, what do you guys think?
Because those cartridges didn't exist in any widespread use in 1950s America. I'm not totally against the inclusion of some fake or rare cartridges in the game, but I believe that widespread cartridges should be pretty much what you would expect to see in the 50s. That probably means that .223 would be less common than .30 cal, along with the changes we've discussed previously.Kashluk wrote:Uh, there are fictional weapons, which work fine IMO so why not fictional ammo as well?

that's the kind of ammo i think is the coolest, just random numbers.Kashluk wrote:...but like 6.4x20mm for example? Stuff that's pulled right out of the hat.
they should use that kind of ammo, but it wouldn't be very bad if they used "real" guns, just altered them. ie AK-112, it is basicly an AK-47, but there are no real world statistics to worry about.

No. I don't really care about .50 cal deagles! Why does everybody think that I like 'em?Strapon2 wrote:but don't you want your .50 deagle?
It would be easier for moderators!Spazmo wrote:Isn't it much, much smarter to totally avoid any kind of trouble at all by using all fictional weapons?
I agree that tha gun names should be changed, not the calibers.
Doyle is right, its the future of 1950 america, not today.

Good call, jerman999.

The "3. Hence I am perfect" is the third line of a specious syllogism. Read the numbered items seperately from the entries before the underscores.jerman999 wrote:I still don't really know what that means.Make the Deagle . 50 cal AE______ 3. Hence I am perfect

ARG! Well I guess I forgot to tell everybody here that I'm not the only one who uses this forum account. My brother also (used to) reads it, though he doesn't actually write in it (I hope). Oh well no more of that! thanks for allerting me of that.jerman999 wrote: and this little snippet from your sig:I still don't really know what that means.my signature wrote:Make the Deagle . 50 cal AE______ 3. How many times do I have to tell you, the Avatar is solely to look good and get people to recognize you.
BTW Read my sig as 2 different columns, the left one about 3 seperate issues, the right one explaining how I'm perfect.

How about a simplified system? There would be no calibers, just the following ammunitions:
- pistol ammo
- rifle ammo
- machine gun ammo
Each of them having "sub-ammunition", like JHP-pistol ammo and AP-pistol ammo, for example. It would simplify things A LOT and it would make it easier to scatter ammo around and make it more rare.

Simple is good and avoids all the "But the Sphincter Arms Model 2345-4/A3 (Export Model) was only chambered for .357 Rect-O-Matic for the Syrian market!" arguements and doesn't spoil the immersive nature of a top of the line CRGP by having places/things/people that exist in our reality which stand out from the game universe.Kashluk wrote:How about a simplified system? The generic weapons and calibres of Fallout were spot on in my opinion even though they let the .357 Desert Eagle (the world's most dangerous paperweight) slip through the net!

This, Spyder, is what I was trying to say earlier. It would be nice to have them do that
Kashluk, I think you've gone into the region of *over*simplification, there. Besides, sticking in a gun which has an exclusive ammo that is tough to come by (2mm EC anyone?) increases the worth and rarity of a powerful gun.
The above statement also reminds me of the Red Ryder LE BB gun. I've never found one in my travels of the post-nuclear wasteland, but the idea of having deadly BBs warms my heart somehow :p
Still, they will change the game if they feel it needs changing. Game companies tend to tinker sometimes for no good reason, and it seems that, like war, will never change...

But in the post-apocalyptic world, all resources should be rare, right? Well how come I never had a shortage for ammunition (be it small, big or energy weapons)? If you have 15 different calibers/'munitions + the variations, it gets complicated and the game must will get overflooded with different rounds.
Oh well, I guess my system might be too simple to come think of it... Then I'm all for creating fictional ammo. Fictional weapons are the best, so why not fictional ammo?

Fictional rounds for fictional guns make sense, but fictional futuristic 50s scifi guns for real rounds work too. Infact, anything they'd choose to do - would work.
In fact, I will find the thread for you.
This little clicky bit here should take you to one massive, rambling post where I threw up both sides of the argument, and then went off on a tangent for why both sides' reasons may work. Read it, if you feel like it.
The gist of it was, the reason they gave in the previous games was the Brotherhood of Steel were making it, they want to reduce it for realism, and one way this could be achieved without going against current canon was by holding it somewhere else than the west coast of north America.
That's the two cents version. If you want the full quarter, click the big orange text two paragraphs up! You'll have to scroll past a post (by Franz_Schubert, no less!) but there it is, in all my rambling glory.
I feel slightly sarcastic, and the above message probably has it. It's not meant for the purpose of being evil, I'm just bored; I'm not being nasty to you.
Edit: Fixed a smiley.
Kashluk, we kinda had that discussion in one of the other threads I've participated in. JE stated he wanted it to change, and the reason they have for having it like it was was having the Brotherhood of Steel make all these wonderful bullets and batteries.Kashluk wrote: But in the post-apocalyptic world, all resources should be rare, right?
