my monitor's got shrinkage?!
my monitor's got shrinkage?!
theres something odd going on with my monitor lately (computer)
after having my computer on for at least an hour the top starts to... well, shrink.
after leaving it on for about 5 hours the top of the view has receided at least a centimeter... and i don't know why.
it's a "sylvania" "f74" about 17 inches. in settings it says it's displaying at 75hz, and on it's popupmenu it says: FH: 67.62khz, and FV: 75.21 hz
it's not really a big problem but i fear it is damaging in the long run... and also anoying.
i wish i could give screenshots, but that wouldn't capture this kind of problem now would it?
(degauss does nothing!)

or you could test it if you've got the means, and the 5 minutes to spare,
you'll need another computer and monitor to test it accurately, swap the bad monitor onto the otehr pc, see if it happens there, if so its a faulty monitor, if not then try the other monitor on your own pc, it could be a video card problem. unlikely but worth it a test if you have teh resources to spare.

I'd have it returned for a new one anyway. for any problem whatsoever. Assuming that you can do this, a new monitor is better than your old, crappy, POS one. BTW test it first, if it's your video card then return that, too (along w/ the monitor)Exitium wrote:It's a monitor with a faulty tube. the FV isn't stable. I'd have it returned for another one before it shoots you, if I were you.
NOTE: follow these instructions(about returning the monitor even if it's good) only if you baught it from A. some non-family owned company or B. some company not from the U.S..
Dont rip off some good 'ol boy, he just might be Scalia/NeonDingo and might shoot ya!

Have you tried lowering your refresh rate? It sounds like your monitor is loosing its sync. I doubt any one will be able to walk you through fixing that, if it is even fixable. But anyway, try some different resolutions and refresh rates to see if the problem is always there. If so, then you can be fairly sure its the monitor.
(right click on desktop, got to the settings tab, then click advanced. Look for the refresh rate in there. Try 70hz or so.)

60hz is bad for the eyes.
Killa, if you are running at 120 hertz, what resolution are you running? 640x480???
I had the same problem with an old IBM monitor of mine, nothing they could do, I got a new one.
In other words, save up for a new monitor, or hope to god that someone has a fix.
I'm convinced it's faulty equipment.

Prove me wrong, but be good enough to post proof.

Not too much, but it looks like it is discontinued. I found one site that had it for $477.Smiley wrote:hmmm I wonder how much that monitor costs...!
I have a '19 Samsung, and it looks very nice. Its wierd with the color though, photoshop has been giving me shit about it... it might be something else though.
The other thing that is slightly annoying about it, is the left edge is kinda screwy, it bows in at the bottom left (somwhere between the corner and the middle). I can more or less eliminate it with pincusion and trapazoid adjustment, but anytime you change your resolution or play an a game on a res you havent used before, you have to do it all over again. Kind of irritating. I wonder if its just my monitor, or if they all do that. The model # is 955.
