Inventory gfx
Yeah, I wanna make inventory gfx.
I gots neat images for items, and i'm tired of color-remapping FOT's sprites to make new weapons (what exactly IS the difference between a jet-black guass pistol and a lightning-blue one?)
Unfortunatly... I dont have photoshop.
Are there any other sprite editors besides Spray? Because spray needs photoshop palletes (in specific) and I can't make em.
Do they have any of those dos-operated programs for spr's like they have for F2's frm files?

You might want to try GIMP. I'm not sure if Spray supports it but it might be worth a try. Either that or start saving up for Photoshop. You can always buy an older version on Ebay for less than ver 7.0. I am currently using ver 5.5 and it does just about everything I need. And Spray is the only game in town.
Hey if you dont have too many you can always send a few images to me on email and ill convert them. I'm bored and unemployed =(

Actually, I dont have them yet. I'm both searching for images online for rare / neato looking firearms, and making 3d models of my own. I'd also be importing images from FO2 and modifying them (esp. the miniguns and a buncha pistols).
So... I really need to be able to do it on my own. Found a copy of Adobe Photoshop 5 LE on ebay for $20, should be getting it in soon. Far as I know, PHTSP v5 is just as good as v6 or 7.
thanx for the offer tho.
Why the hell doesn't someone make up a batch of new FOT programs, user-friendly ones this time...
I've got some meager programming skill and I could probably jerri-rig something workable in Java, but I dont have nearly any clue as to how the FOT gfx format works, so it's outta my league.
...mostly I see problems like this as a good motivation to make my own post-apocalyptic game - user-friendly to modding and such; but I kinda suck at storyline production and i'm a college student (Computer Science) so I dont have much time.

There aren't more user-friendly FOT editing programs because all the people who know how to make that sort of thing are not interested in lowly games like Fallout Tactics (admit it, 90% of people who play computer games have never even heard of Fallout Tactics).
Im surprised we have any FOT editing programs at all. At least we have the generic editor (which we almost didn't get.. stupid MicroForte).
FOT is very nice from a game-altering/designing point of view. Just look at starcraft. I remember wanting to make more unit types for Starcraft for those little RPG games. Now we have FOT. We should be so fortunate :)
Yeah, I am kinda babbling. Im just saying we should appreciate what FOT gives us and do what we can with it. Truth is, if we had even half the programs we would like to edit FOT with, we'd still want more.
We're just not applying those simple little ideas that we would normally apply to a simpler game. Everything seems to be on a grand scale so we tend to think "Big" (aka campaign).
How many games have we played where we said, "Hey, if I could go and change this or that, add such and such here, make more guys, etc.."? FOT lets us do all that and much more.
And I blab more than I should. Guess I'll go work on my maps some more :)

Doh! You made the same mistake I did!Sirgalahadwizard wrote:So... I really need to be able to do it on my own. Found a copy of Adobe Photoshop 5 LE on ebay for $20, should be getting it in soon.
The problem is that the LE version only lets you work w/Layers, not Channels. It also won't let you save in the RAW format. In short: it's worthless for sprite creation.
I have a copy that I bought for the same reason and it's sitting on a shelf gathering dust, since I had to break down and find an educational version of 5.0, which cost me over $100 on eBay.
Problem is that not many people play FoT anymore, especially not the hardcore modding types. The focus has shifted sharply to the FO2 mapper now. Red! has talked of adding SPR editing capabilities to his RedViewer, but he hasn't gotten around to it yet.Sirgalahadwizard wrote:Why the hell doesn't someone make up a batch of new FOT programs, user-friendly ones this time...

Actually I think I can send images back and forth between PSP v5 and photoshop. PSP can work with channels and save as .raw, but it uses either windows or jasc format palletes (see here, the key is the palletes!)The problem is that the LE version only lets you work w/Layers, not Channels. It also won't let you save in the RAW format. In short: it's worthless for sprite creation.
PSP might give me a whole buncha options about headers and widths and things for the .raw format though... got any suggestions (since I dont know jack about the .raw format)?
It might seem like a stretch to go out and buy a program entirely for this, but PSP's .png capabilities are screwed, and I need a better gfx editing program overall anyway. I worked with photoshop 5.0 at some point too, but it was at a job.
Is "LE" limited edition? (as in, the software has been limited, or this is a limited offer)...

Oh. Good to see you've not wasted your money like I did, then. I don't know if LE can save palletes or not, as I only worked w/it long enough to discover my blunder regarding Channels and RAW format, which nixed my designs on SPR editing until I got myself a (more or less) proper version of Photoshop.Sirgalahadwizard wrote:Actually I think I can send images back and forth between PSP v5 and photoshop. LE = "Limited Edition" in the sense that the software has limited capabilities. It's the version that is sold w/bundles such as a new computer or scanner package.Sirgalahadwizard wrote:Is "LE" limited edition? (as in, the software has been limited, or this is a limited offer)...
