Shattered Oasis Released

Post by Mad Max RW »

<strong>[Game -> Update]</strong>

<html><body><P>Not too soon after the <A HREF=http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~shatteredo ... ;f=1;t=736 target=_blank>screenshot blitz</A> the full-blown first release of Shattered Oasis is out and ready for public consumption. Those of you with UT2003 and are looking for a new mod to download should check the <A HREF=http://www.planetunreal.com/shatteredoa ... nloads.asp target=_blank>list of mirrors</A>. Here’s what you can expect:</P><blockquote><em>You'll find within this release of Shattered Oasis the "one on one" gametype called Arena.
<br>You'll also find the team based mode, Detonation. One of the first mods to add a trigger in team oriented play for UT2003.
<br>In this strictly MultiPlayer release they have done quite the job to maintain balance and endless gameplay.
<br>The promise of many more game modes just adds to the excitement of downloading this game.
<br>The gametype, originated by this studio, that carries the balance of our maps is Detonation.
<br>The gameplay is only overshadowed by the splender of these environments.
<br>Detonation is a team based objective of tripping and causing the explosion of each camps Replicator(generator). And conversely, the defending of the same.</em></blockquote><P>There’s more info and download links at the <A HREF=http://www.planetunreal.com/shatteredoasis/ target=_blank>Shattered Oasis homepage</A>.</P></body></html>

Great! Now all I need is UT2003... Is it cheaper then 2.99 somewhere? Cause I don't think it's worth more.

Yeah, i managed to get it to work, just had to make a shortcut. Are you sure your up to the latest version of ut2003? Overall i think its well done, but theres only one map that seems fitting, all the others are in lush green valleys, blegh! imo, the only thing most ut2003 mods need are more urban maps..... remember, just because the engine allows for terrain and big outdoors maps, doesnt mean you have to use it.

Yeah, I got it to work after I installed the lastest UT2K3 patch.

So far I don't really like it much... I might play it a few more times before I declare it poop though.

Gameplay doesn't seem much different than most mods. It looks pretty good, but there's a quite a few problems. Certain areas in maps or structures will destroy framerate. It's usually in the bases, which is the worst possible place. They aren't fully optimized or whatever.
There's only a couple servers to play, and it lags kind of bad.
No bots. Usually bots aren't a big deal, but UT2k3 doesn't have the numbers to make casual online play possible. Most mods have empty server lists, and it's boring to run around by yourself or vs. 2 people in a map designed for 32.
There's a bunch of other minor problems I can look past. Like when jumping off an oxen near a wall you will sometimes fall through the map into space. Or when switching maps I always get booted back to normal UT2k3.

I never saw UT2k3 as a good game to play vs. lots of people at any time. The majority of servers are filled with bots anyway. You should try Shattered Oasis out if you have a powerful rig and don't plan on playing it religiously. Hopefully they can fix the slowdowns and maybe more people will get into it. But at this time I can't see a large following.

axel @ NMA wrote:It seems very generic and unispiered... I just played another round, there were two servers and one was empty and the other had only 3 people in, so it wasn't that great. Hopefully you'll get more servers up.

The weapons don't seem very interesting and sometimes it hard to tell what they are (there's a shotgun, or atleast I think it's a shotgun, that they only way I could tell it was a shotgun was from the sound effect it made when fired and a guess from the magizine capacitiy)

The maps don't seem very interesting either, I've only played two of them, but they didn't scream post-apoc to me. (The most recent one i"ve play on was a rainy forest, with a lava river in the middle... )

Overall, I'm not impressed... doesn't seem like anything special (of course UT2K3 wasn't exactly stellar either ) Although I willl admit, if you're coming out with a single player version of it, I might try it out again, when that's finshed.
it's pretty poopy so far :(

but the weapons are kinda crappy and there's still a lot of bugs in there. and there seems to be only on or two servers online to play on. shame

Thanks for the feedback guys it helps me figure out what to do to make it better.

If there were a couple servers on a good connection then it would play better all around.

when you think of post apoc you think of ? Just Urban areas?
We have upcoming unban areas but not for a while it takes a load of time to create custom meshes for the maps.

I saw axlegrease log onto my server hosted on my home machine which is Central NA and on a cable connection.

All I can say thanks for trying it out guys and I'll take from your comments what I can and go to work on the next version.

If you have other thoughts or opinions or even some map ideas plse mail me
