If Fallout were real...

Post by Neon Dingo »

...it would rule.

Now before you go blabbering like an idiot at why you think my topic sucks, read my reasons (if you're not a lazy sod) and then decide if you still want to chastize me. What I can't stand is people's immature knee-jerk (emphasis on jerk) reactions to thought-provoking discussions.

Reasons living in a Fallout-esque universe would be awesome:

1. The world would be a lot less boring.

You have to hunt for your own food, fight your own fights, and wipe your own ass (with dried leaves, of course!). School and work are no longer painful obligations. Your new painful obligation is survival. You have to work, but it's a lot more practical than sitting in a cubicle or desk all day selling toilet brushes over the phone. You actually get a feeling of progress out of your work instead of doing the same chore every damn day. None of this sitting-in-your-room-all-day-being-a-whiny-emo-teen crap. You can take a 50 mile trek across the countryside (or through a charred, irradiated urban skeleton, take your pick) doing all sorts of cool stuff. You may die, but hey, that's all part of the fun and games!

2. Nobody bossing you around.

Law and order are virtually non-existant in the post-apocalypse. You can practically do whatever you want. You can grow fields of cannabis, you can curse at the top of your lungs, you can have sex with goats...yes, the possibilities are endless! No more taxes. You can be lazy if you want (you'd most likely die though because you'd never obtain any food or water just lying around all day, so I'd advise against growing the cannabis.).

3. No more noise pollution.

A lot more peace and quiet. No more annoying television, automobiles, or noisy neighbors. You can actually hear yourself think.

4. A lot less people.

A significantly lower amount of people means less competition, and less annoyances. Let's face it, people, in general, are annoying and they suck up resources like locusts. The inherently stupid and weak will die because of natural selection and the strong and smart will remain, thus the world will be a better place.

Those are my four reasons. I know there's more, but that's up to you.

In my opinion the world has gone soft and people are wasting their lives with futile pursuits such as fame and fortune. The real pusuit in life is stalking a deer through a forest with a handmade spear.

If you mean music, by music you get by popping in a CD, then that's a luxury. It's not necessary to your existence.

And besides, music doesn't have to go away. They invented guitars for a reason, you know. Put your creativity to good use.

Edit: Ha, but WHAT ABOUT NEW RENO, HUH!? WHAT ABOUT GOLDEN GLOBES PR0N STUDIO!

It would be nice to live in a world where you were completely responsible for yourself in the wilderness... just you, your weapons, and your survival instinct.

No more paperwork and government shit...
Just the free wild nature, or wasteland.

But being in the Fo-realm would seem a bit depressing >=/

Dude, guitars are fine and dandy but what about all the other instruments? It'd be pretty fucking boring just listening to people play guitars and nothing else. I suppose makeshift industrial drums are possible, but how many people would take the time to make those?

Besides, I like my techno. You can't fucking have that in a post-apocalyptic world. Nor can you have classical music. Fuck that.

Our ancestors used to live in a world like that. They hated it so much that they changed things so they are like they are today. Should tell you something.

You're free to rough it if you want, though. Just make your way somewhere remote like the Amazon, or central Australia or the like, and have enough discipline not to run home crying to momma when you get parasites.

Yes, teh antelopes will build great cities and structures to defend against the great lion menace! After that, they will make use of humans and use them for milk.

It would be fucking awesome... I would love the post-apoc world, death or no...

And...I can't believe you guys! We're on DAC, that is Duck And Cover! Meh, I guess Dingo was right...

Neon Dingo, I would suggest a one weekend adventure, it would be more than enough for your survival needs, after that you would be happy to live in such boredom...
Travel to the wilderness, spent two days without eating and drinking water, walk or swim 25 km everyday, finally don’t sleep for those two days. After that your boring live with hot meals, a warm bed and no real work at all will look like paradise.

Well the reason it would seem like a paradise is because PARADISE DOESNT FUCKING EXIST.. and being in a FO like world would be like living in the stone age and trying to survive. But hey, what did the survivors of the stone age do? They lived on to more modern times. They are us. Why the heck do you think some people want to go back to those days where you had to do something to survive? Because we have it WAAY to easy now a days. If youre fucking lazy you can just go down and get your social security check and drink it up or something. Were raised this way, life is easy. Of course some people are starving... some people have hard lifes, but in the more modern parts of the world its just because their parents couldnt take the pressure and turned alchoholics, durg addicts or maybe the weight of civilization crushed them brutally. Anyways, point is, we evolved to fast and now our "animal" genes, insticnts and needs are bored to death. Cant you see? Dingos got a point here.

Before you decide whether or not a post-apocalyptic world would "rule," think about whether or not you actually have the ability to survive in one. Really think about it. Most people have no clue whatsoever how to "stalk a deer through the forest with a handmade spear."

Next, think about how many people would just barely be scraping by in life, through subsistence farming or scavenging or bullying/killing.

Then think about how hard it would be to get places. That's a LOT of walking. How many people here have a horse?

While pop culture would be buried (good riddance for the most part), the good bits of movies and music would be done for, too. I want my Sonic Youth, and World War III is going to prevent me from getting it. Culture would be shattered, and there wouldn't be many people with the time to make serious music, art, or literature - the saving graces of humanity.

In other words, count me out.
I'll get you, Yoshimi.

I would suggest you take the same weekend adventure...
Look in my opinion there is no such thing as a boring life . Your life is what you make of it . If yours is so ‘‘boring’’, well maybe you shouldn’t blame human evolution but rather yourself?.
People nowadays have more free time, thanks to that they can dedicate themselves to various things , doing sports , going to nightclubs , eat whatever food you want . But wait you want to return to the way, people of the stone age lived? Basic stuff huh? Just 3 or 4 main goals and that’s all. That's being an animal. A normal human would want to overcome that as soon as possible and get more resting periods, more food to choose from etc .

It depends on your outlook on life, beliefs, values, indoctrinations, etc... But mostly your mind. Some are willing to have a greater challenge, and others feel no need for struggle and want to keep it that way.

Thats not what im saying man, youre not listening. Of course, I KNOW I would die in an FO world, im totally out of shape man. Anyways im pretty sure a global nuclear war would end humanity more or less, but thats not important either... dont like to repeat myself, but I will.

Humanity has evolved to fast... some part of us still want that adrenaline heaving survival of the fittest life. Thats why people go sky diving, thats why people go hunting, thats why people go mountain climbing, thats why people go deep sea diving. You know? All im saying is that Dingo has a point here. Do you think people were fat and lazy in the stone age? I dont think so, you didnt have the chance. The main drawback of civilization are the people who fall off the ride, its just to much. Too complicated. Why do you think the possibility of nuclear war is so close? Because technology has outclassed our wisdom to use it. The world we have today is more than what humanity strived for as a whole.

Of course theres still challenges. Personal growth and the quest for knowledge but some people might need the challenge of survival to feel alive. Why do you go on about "you try it and then come back and tell me how you feel?" he said you could die, which was a part of his point.

I dont want a world of Fallout, because id die, youre right. But I still know that a simpler and more dangerous world would fit the human being better than this one. You said paradise... eh? Well... we arrived. Now its boring and were tearing it apart.

Survival of the fittest, isn't it? I'm all for a Fallout future, my mission in life is to create one. Well, more like creating reason number four , but it could be pretty nice... Walking endless deserts... Eating carrions... Dying of thirst... Yeah, I could get into some of that, and hey, maybe I'll even get to rape the survivors, or start a new civilization, or something neat like that.
