Quest Suggestions

Post by Alphawulf »

I posted this on the old Forum Planet boards, but I think that one nice beginner's quest would be "The Bouncer" where you work for a local Club/Bar as a bouncer. You can either talk people who aren't supposed to come in into leaving with a high speech skill, or with the brass knuckles the Club/Bar owner loans to you just pummel them until they get KO'd or run away. Upon completion you would receive the Brass Knuckles and a modest amount of money. (sub-quests could also branch off from or, to this)

Being a bounty hunter would be sweet. You'd have to track people in the wasteland and stuff using your Outdoorsman skill.

It's an CRPG. It's set in a post-apocalyptic setting. It's Fallout. And CRPG's are not known for having only quests directly involved with the storyline now are they?

READ: FO: 2.
I liked how it had many side quests. If FO:2 had only had necesary cities, then there would have only been San Fran. Image
KillaKilla's logic:
FOT and FO: BOS weren't FO at all!........... 1. I am nobody
DOGMEAT is God. Never dispute this!........ 2. Nobody is perfect
Up and coming hardware nerd.................. 3. Hence I am perfect

Freeing a long forgotten group of BOS (in a vault they built from Enclave technology) from some suspension tubes that are malfunctioning. A message was sent to the only remaining BOS outpost, and to revive their group, they need these BOS/Vaulties to survive...Sort of like saving remnants of civilization...Or you could do the opposite and kill the ones in the tubes..Maybe doing bad on that quest would give you a good ending.

If you don't have anything to add, don't bother adding it, Payne.

The BOS is the United States military, so if you woke them up from suspension they wouldn't know WTF the BOS is.

Edit: i also hate your entire idea but if you got rid of the BOS reference and replaces Enclave build vault to military base it is a bearable idea, but still horrible and i still personally hate you for posting it.
hello, if your fallout idea starts with "Wouldn't it be cool", then i hate you, and i am very saddened by the fact that technology has not advanced to the point where you can reach out and touch other users, because i would strangle you.

The whole 'Brotherhood Egg Hunt' idea reminds me of something else...

As an example of what not to do...

Man, I'll be flamed...

One of the (rather primitive) villages on the world map is dying. Every month, there are less people in the streets, low level NPCs the main character could interact with are dying off...
Some of the primitives have high tech gadgets (weapons, equipment). They got it from a trader they whacked and looted. The trader got the stuff from a highly irradiated zone and nowk it is poisoning the village. The quest would be to get the idea what is happening (the villagers won't talk about robbing traders...or, at a speech skill of 140, they might...) find all irradiated items (with a geiger counter...very rare, very expensive...) and to get them out of the village. If you talk the villagers out of their stuff, they will dump it themselves (somewhere on the worldmap, where you can find and use it for yourself, incurring radiatio sickness of the severest kind, sell it (bad boy, get status: merchant of death) or use it for really sophisticated assassinations/ throw it into town wells...). If you steal it, you have to carry it out of the village, irradiating yourself. If you kill the villagers to rid them of the stuff, well, harsh cure...

The reward for completing this quest: - Several NPCs, which may be helpful in the main quest, stay alive
- Productivity of the village could rise: suddenly, they are selling healing powder/ crossbow bolts/ leather armour
- the irradiated equipment (see above)

What do you think?

The problem in that I see, is if the area was so irradiated that a simple item from there could killed off half a village, wouldnt the trader be a glowing skeleton by the item's original location, rather than running around?

Good point. Maybe he was wearing lead undies? At least we're getting away from the usaul corrier quests that will probably end up in the game.

Yes, that is true. I do alot of the FalloutPnP, and when making a quest, I try to think of something cool, then look at it from all sorts of angles (logic, canon, usefulness), then boil the quest down to what it's structure is, because regardless of how well dressed a 'Hunt this guy down' quest is, it's still a kill task. The creators of Morrowind never realized this and 99% of the main quest is escort/kill/fetch quests.

Make that trader a ghoul...the villagers wouldn't have to feel that bad about bashing him in the first place...

How about this for a main quest. New York Ten, Years after Fallout Tactics takes place, you are a new recruit for the enclave. Your first missions are easy but still challenging (going around NYC, taking care of trouble makers and mutants or deathclaws, etc,....) But after a few missons you get promoted to Sgt. and your first big mission is to find out wat happened to the enclave in the west. (All Fallout 2 players who have beaten the game know :) ) So your now part of a squad (instead of leading it you are a party member) so you have to now go and take orders from where your leader goes and what he tells you to do. But as the company first sergeant you can influence his descisions. So you have to go through the midwestern area to get to California, on the way there you can do side quests and whatnot, but sometimes you must do battle or negotiate in order to continue. And if your leader dies then its game over so you not only have to look out for your ass but also your leaders. When you finally reach there you find out what happened and the game branches off into two descisions, Your leader wants to eradicate those who are responsible for the Enclaves doom, (Arroyo) You can either help or refuse. If you dont have a high brown noser skill or speech skill then you must battle your leader and your once beloved squad. All your friends now turn on you even your best friend. This makes it harder to just wanna play the good guy role especially if you grow fond of the NPC's. If you turn on your friends you become accepted by Arroyo and now live there, if you go along your leader dies and now you take over and restart the Enclave in California. Many elements from fallout 1 2 and BOS would be included in this game. Wives, abonding your group or sumtin etc,.... plus much more. What do you think?

EDIT: Oh and perhaps on your way there you could run into the Brotherhood of Steel.

Good idea, it would probably make a great mod but it only appears to a very specific demographic. So IPLY probably wouldn't take that risk, they would rather target gamers and RPGers as a whole.

The plot needs to be original and new. Fallout 2 was kind of the same as Fallout 1, go out into the wasteland and save your people. Although dont get me wrong Fallout 2 was an awesome game, but Fallout 3 needs to be different. One and Two was saving your people, it would be nice if you could take the role of trying to reestablish civilization this time by tryin to reestablish the country wich once resided in the Fallout Universe, the U.S.A. Or would it be better to have Fallout three take place in Asia, or Europe. or something. I still think the Enclave Role idea is pretty cool though. And it isnt a specific demographic. I still have many more ideas, much more but too much to say here. But maybe later ill tell you them.

It is a specific target audience! People. Who. Played. Fallout. 2.

We all know how well the Fallouts sold.

how is it a specific target to fallout 2? if that quest would be a specific target to fallout 2 players, then fallout 2 is a specific target to fallout 1 for the same reason. the story is fresh and new, so its a game initself, not a sequel really.
