Well, I spend most of my spare money on records, but I usually download them before buying them, because I wanna hear what I'm about to buy... a pig and a poke and all that. Most of the stuff I've bought I have as mp3s, too. Still I have plenty of of mp3s I haven't bought, but that's mostly because of my limited budget I reckon. I think it would only hurt the (vinyl) sales if I couldn't listen to the tracks proper before buying them. I believe it's another thing if you just wanna download all the good stuff w/o paying for it though

I have no problem with piracy. Music (in my opinion) should be free because it's a form of art. Most "artists" these days are in it all for the money and not for the expression. I draw and paint shit, I make a bit of scratch off of it sometimes, but I honestly don't expect to make a living off of it and I really don't understand the logic behind people when they say that piracy is taking away from Lars Ulrich's right to buy a second jacuzzi.
Fuck the music industry, Eminem makes more money in one night than any of us make in a year and he doesn't have to do anything but stand on a stage for a half hour and rap about how much he hates his mom.
90% of mainstream music sucks, I think we can all agree on that. Underground artists is where the real substance is.
The RIAA should be spending their money on forstering new and upcoming artists instead of blowing it on this piracy witch hunt that will ultimately turn everyone against them.

They are most likely going to lose a ton of money. I agree, most of the new music that comes out makes me want to hit the next person, who wheres a "MADE" shirt, in the head with a hammer. It's not so much about the music anymore, as it is about the style and how they can influence people to buy their shit.

I think new music generally sucks. All the music industry does now is recycle old shit and tries to sell it to people. Look at all the remakes and remixes of songs. Like whatever that one guys name is that made the song "Ignition" then made a remix of it. I wouldn't be surprised if next he makes a remix of the remix of Ignition
God does not like this.

ok with music, i saw robby williams on tv yesterday, and you know what he said?
he said, download every song i make, download it twice even spread it to every corner on the planet.
why? i dont make my money with my cd`s, i make money on my tours and they cant copie that.
most artist dont really go on tours but just make albums, why they arent interested in the fans but the money. its easier with cd`s, tours are more work but in the end its far better, this way i really connect with my fans.
now i dont like his music, but he has a point, think about it, with cd`s only the companies make money, on tours the artist do. i mean i pay friggin 70 bucks for a concert nowadays and there are around 20.000 people whom paid the same or more, now thats a whole lotta dough.
if they want to stop piracy, lower the price on cd`s.
i mean most people buy a cd`s with max 4 song they know/like and the rest they dont know/like and thats another 40bucks(euro`s, i think its around 50$) down the drain, i find this bloody insane.

Would the RIAA's description of P2P activity include the practice of playing very bad music very loudly from one's car stereo?
If so, I would like to report about twenty thousand vile criminal pirate doublethinkers on my street.
If not, please stop them anyway.

Arg, I hate those pricks, we're a goddamn rural neighborhood, we own guns around here dumbass, every time I hear that shit I want to toss my cammies on and hide in the bushes with my pellet gun. Sure it's just going to do cosmetic damage but those punks shit themselves if you speak ill of their annoying rice rockets. 12 shot semi-auto at 615 FPS ought to do the trick.

While I myself dont pirate (new stuff, exept things like huge patches 'cause its faster.). You can't "Pirate" Louis Armstrong according to me, it's just too old.
I still think it's a breach of the first ammendament because you're just talking in 1's and 0's. As long as theu don't sell it, its fine by me. If this can be legal, then all weapons of any type should be banned, along with the ability to have free press.

No we should only be allowed muskets and hand worked printing presses, because it's obvious that's what the Founding Fathers really meant, they also wanted us to give up all of our taxes to druggies, the real reason we fought for our independence was because we weren't taxed enough but then some right-wing fat cat got into power and raped the common man. Also art didn't exsist until federal funding.

Well "according to you" you may be right, but "according to copyright laws" you are wrong.Killa-Killa wrote:You can't "Pirate" Louis Armstrong according to me, it's just too old.
Louis Armstrong has not yet entered into the public domain, just like shitloads of other great artists' material from yester-year. Take for instance Raymond Scott, who was mostly active recording in the '30s and '40s, I wanted to get some his stuff about two weeks ago and the roadblock was that it's still not in the public domain. So I either have to pay up, or pirate. I'll pay when I have the cash, and until then I'll have to do w/o.
The problem I have w/some of these intellectual property laws is that it isn't that people like Armstrong or Scott are making money off of their work, it's people that had absolutely jack-diddly-squat to do w/it. I don't think that people should sit around profiting off of what dad/grandpa did "back in the day". This is (supposedly) a classless society and that means we should get rid of inheritance laws, at least where it comes to intellectual property.
When it comes to artists sitting around, crying a river about their lost revenue I generally don't have any sympathy for them. That's mainly because the most vocal whiners are the ones that really won't miss any of that income. People like Lars Ulrich. However, there are artists that you can hurt or even cripple by pirating. If the people who's material you're pirating aren't the big names of their day, you are fucking them, possibly with a dick big enough for an elephant to feel. If an act doesn't make money, the big suits don't want to hear about it. If the big suits don't want to hear about it, you won't get to hear it.

Please don't peddle that shit about "most people" who download Warez just download the FULL GAME to try it and then immediately go out and buy the game. Whoever in your small utopian society does that is a fucking moron in plain English.
Think about it, would you rather waste $50 on something you already have in the name of "morals?" or would you rather say "Fuck it" and just play the full game you already have?

Piracy is an industry. Real pirates are involved with the Russian Mafia and the Yakuza. The RIAA can't fuck with them unless they like getting their fingers chopped off.I bet if RIAA start to TRY stop the big piraters they will get some very serious problems, piraters tend to be the ones who can hack. If they can hack, and they have a target bothering them it could get messy. It would be cool to see a war between hackers and the RIAA.

yea, big money in giving out free stuff?
Most of the stuff I listen to is 80's stuff. I don't even really like it, just listen to it for fun? One or two musicians I like I'm thinking of buying the cd, but it's hard to find a reliable site that sells to the uk or something.
I do buy other media though, my mp3 collection isn't exactly huge (400? I only listen to 5 songs). I've spent about £1000 on dvds though, so it balances out mebbe?

Fuck record companies, like first force said, if a band wants to make money then go on tour.
I download mp3's like nobodies business and own probably only 2 real CD's, but whenever one of the bands come into town im the first one waiting in line for the ticket, where i might pay between $30-$100 bucks to see them playing live one time with a few supporting acts (supporting acts is where real bands SHOULD get noticed, not because they paid money to a label.)
