Project Salus Revealed

<strong>[Game -> Update]</strong>

<html><body><P><A HREF=http://www.rpgcodex.com/ target=_blank>RPGCodex</A> caught wind of <A HREF=http://salus.cubewarfare.com/ target=_blank>Project Salus</A>, a new post-apocalyptic RPG to appear at the <A HREF=http://www.igf.com/ target=_blank>Independent Games Convention</A>. The <A HREF=http://salus.cubewarfare.com/ target=_blank>official site</A> explains what it’s all about:</P><blockquote><em>Project Salus is a role-playing game born from a simulation. It provides opportunities for the player to take on the role of a fallout shelter manager through the simulation, to provide a more expansive and diverse role-playing experience.
<br>
<br>While most RPG's focus on the fighting aspects of their roles, we are trying to push the boundaries of role-playing in the opposite direction by stretching the non-combat aspects of role-playing. That isn't to say you can't play the game like you're Rambo, shooting everything in sight, but we want to provide the opportunity to play the game however you want.</em></blockquote><blockquote><center><A HREF=http://salus.cubewarfare.com/images/scr ... shot13.jpg target=_blank><img src=/madmaxrw/salus1a.jpg></A> <A HREF=http://salus.cubewarfare.com/images/scr ... shot11.jpg target=_blank><img src=/madmaxrw/salus2a.jpg></A></center></blockquote><P>Check the <A HREF=http://salus.cubewarfare.com/ target=_blank>Project Salus homepage</A> for info on the story and more screenshots. Looks good. So is this going to be like fallout or it more of a Simcity type deal?

More like you're the leader of a fallout shelter and you get to use your skills as a character to make sure everything is honkey-dory.

suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Well, the opinions of Canadians don't matter anyway. It could be fun, and if it isn't it doesn't matter.

Is this the same thing as ... what was it Brown? something to that effect maybe? Made a thread about on DaC a few months back? And another thread a few months before that?

It looks kind of interesting how you have a certain budget to make your vault and then you have to live with those consequences of how the budget was used.

Don't piss off the Canucks or they'll get tanked up on Molson and sack the White House again!

Intriguing idea, however I have to wonder if it will be more on the simulation side ((Just collecting supplies and running the shelter)) or roleplaying ((Theres actually characters to interact with that just aren't general NPCs as well as if there's a plot outside of "surviving")).

Also since you're basically running a shelter, it'de be atleast somewhat interesting to able to choose what the other members of the shelters jobs are. Selecting training for them and assigning them jobs and such.

I also wonder abit about this "Madness" the other shelters ((Almost said vaults coincidentally)) had and if any of the other ones made it. Seems like an overall interesting game & premise that I'm gonna keep my eyes on.

The concept is too strange. Simulation-roleplay..? O_o

They speak as if a non-combat route it a wildy unique thing. It's rare, but not exactly groundbreaking. And considering it's in it's beta testing stage it looks preeeeetty primitive.

Could be wrong, but likely junk.

To alot of people Fallout looks primative, but correct me if I'm wrong in saying that most people here would prefer to play it to alot of new games which look more "Up to date".

The Sims maybe? Well, sort of.

Well said Viktor, well said.

Who knows, I hate to change my opinion but a Vault sim game could be good if it's well done, and has enough of the '50s references.

Yup, it's me.
I've been busily trying to get the game as presentable as possible for the IGF, but there are likely going to be many changes in the future.
There's still lots of time for people to provide their input, and I'd be happy to answer questions about the game for anyone interested.
I will be adding more documentation in the coming week to address people's specific questions about game mechanics, and how the game works.

Please put all your complaints, questions, and suggestions in the forums at http://forums.cubewarfare.com/viewforum.php?f=1 and you'll be much more likely to get a prompt response.

I would rather play a decent game with mediocre graphics than a sucky game with eye-popping graphics. Hell I still enjoy playing Wasteland from time to time. But I think a little more detritus and ruins in the outside world would add to the atmosphere if it isn't there already.
