No Good Online Games

Post by iohkus »

[pms]

I can't think of 1 game out right now that I want to play. It pisses me off to no end because I'm bored as fuck but have no interest in playing anything out there... because THEY ALL SUCK

FPS genre is shit, no change from straight CTF/Deathmatch/Free for all insta-gib gameplay

PlanetSide is good until you realize it's fucking pointless because there never is a definitive team based outcome/victory

argh.

Halo plays like UT2K3 with a warthog

Half-Life 2 looks like nothing but a single player with regular deathmatch and possibility for MODS! OH WEWT ANOTHER COUNTER-STRIKE, STFU.

argh...

[/pms]

the last online game I enjoyed was C&C: Renegade...

game design is at an all time low. fucking fascist.

A game that could hold your attention for an hour or more (as you hate fps') would be "thespecialists" mod for HL. It's a lot like the matrix. but seeing as you dislike DM-fps style games, you would lose interest.

When you get down to it, every game is pointless at the end. there is no gain or benifit to oneself through the play of any game. (unless you get money somehow;))

Technically videogames are a source of entertainment, which means fun. And when people have fun they aren't stressed out as much. When they're really stressed out it could lead to high blood-pressure and eventually heart problems. So games really do help you, if you have fun playing them that is and you don't overdo it. Money on the other hand only helps you "buy" things that can improve your well being.

As for Savage, try the Natural Selection mod for Half-Life. It's like savage, but on smaller maps and in a Starcraft setting.

I am not familiar with SAVAGE but the way you describe it, you could be talking about UO or EQ. Incidentally, there are people out there who make a living playing both games and selling off crap that they secure in the game world.

I agree with you; overall for the action genre things look like it is all about the eye candy and not about the gameplay. RPGS lately seem more willing to chance being innovative. Some TB combat games coming out soon like Silent Storm, look like they could inject new life to the genre. As to whether the game will have a MP option I have no clue.

I want a sweet role playing FPS game... kinda. but there would be sooo many lamers.
I want the matrix, but not really. (it would be fun to play around in a different world with all your friends, and not worry about getting messed up/dieing.) but that's a pretty wierd idea.

matrix sucks imo.

a post-apocalyptic MMORPG FPS

shooter / rpg elements, where u get to explore the remenants of society and culture after a big war, so no gov't, no corporations, but semi-modern towns, pubs, gun shops, supplies, towns with NPCs, maybe semi-corrupt guards/regulators

not like SWG, but a game that actually takes skill in combat,

streamlined FPS interface + vehicles, dune buggies, wasteland motor bikes, jeeps mounted with m-60s etc...

with the ability to form cults / clans / posses, options to branch off into good or bad, as a raider or a regulator, a ranger or a mercenary, bounty hunter or criminal

vast customizable avatar selection, vast outdoor areas + towns, indoors / outdoors / underground,

eh, uknow?

i'd design that shit, but i'm like newb3?

The Wastes mod for HL was damn fun for a while. Then people stopped playing it. I dunno if anyone still plays it or not.

I just got back from an Xbox linked 4 vs. 4 Halo LAN party. It was probably the funnest multiplayer I've ever played in my life. Playing on a console is far greater because of the interaction. The other 4 guys were in a different room so as to not give away their strategies. It worked out very nicely.

I think that online PC games are kind of disconnected socially. People are assholes.

For example, you'll be having a great old time but then some bastard suggests "knives only." Of course, this is boring as hell, you say. Well then everyone gets pissed off that you aren't using knives and they kick and ban you. Then you go to a new server and someone there is playing shitty rap music over the voice chat feature and for some reason mute doesn't work.

But anyway, I think you're right on some counts. FPSes are getting depressingly generic.

Counter-Strike was really fun for a while. I got about a year or two out of that game. Then it got extremely popular and a bunch of ass clowns took it over and ruined it. It is no longer any fun.

I still think Halo is the funnest multiplayer ever. Even better than overrated Goldeneye 64. The vehicles rock and although the weapons aren't nearly as cool as the ones found in Unreal Tournament, they're pretty damn balanced.

Halo is going to definitely satiate my hunger for good multiplayer action until HL2 comes along. I still think Halo will be played more anyway, even after I get HL2.

Fuck, I'm having Halo withdrawl. Playing for 6 hours straight will do that to you.

LAN makes games about 2x more fun

when you've got the ass clowns in the same room,

Renegade would probably be the best game to take to a LAN, but EA is full of shit so GG.

Play RTCW: Enemy Territory and Shattered Galaxy. They are both out for free.

RTCW: ET requires some amount of teamwork and a fast connection in order to win. Plus u cant leech xp like those dumbfucks in Planetside. Get it from Fileplanet. Although there are only 6 maps in vanilla, i played the, for almost 3 months.

Shattered Galaxy is a 2D style MMPORTS with RPGish style of play. Units help your hero/commander gain levels and gain levels themselves.

Higher level heros/commanders have better stats which affect unit availabilty, technology, role as Battle Commander etc. Better units get more Hp and can fit better weaponary. There is a definite learning curve and if u are good, u will get respected and can do politics too. ;) nothing beats ordering 10+ high level heros =D.

Get it from www.sgalaxy.com

Only game that I know that somewhat resembles that description is.... EverQuest...
Of course, its debatable wether or not its FUN...
imo its a fucking drag, but if youre really good, then you should be able to make a couple $100 by selling accounts and very valuable items.
And theres no DM unless you pick a server which has it... then you might be assaulted AND RAPED and random times :O

Just the game for you then, eh iokhus??

Although not one to enjoy MMO's and Online RPG's, I've really gotten into Star Wars Galaxies. It is quite enjoyable.

Yet another reason why I don't play many games online. Most are craptastic.

Try getting some older single player games (I bought MW2:mercs the other day, and it;s an absolute bitch stick to finish)
