Quentin Tarantino on CGI and The Matrix

Post by Ernesto »

Jo Blo Movie News wrote:In a recent interview with UK rag Empire Magazine (the issue hits stands later this week), the tirade prone and expletive spouting director tells us exactly what he thinks of films like The Matrix, and it's computer effects driven counterparts.
I watched Keanu watching and I suddenly felt it. You know, my guys are all real. There's no computer fucking around. I'm sick to death of all that shit. This is old school with fucking cameras. If I'd wanted all that computer game bullshit, I'd have gone home and stuck my dick in my Nintendo.* This CGI bullshit is the death knell of cinema. Movies are far too fucking expensive at the moment and it's killing the fucking art form. The way it's going, in ten year's time it will officially be killed.-Tarantino, foo.

Linkage.

Looking a little fruity in that pic, Mr. Brown.

You know, he's right. CGI is being over used and since we're on Tarantino, anyone going to see Kill Bill?

*Best. Quote. Ever.

EDIT-Um..The poll is on drugs...

How Kubrick.

I don't know, there's a lot of stuff we can't physically make in order to film, and CGI could fill that huge gap. Problem is, nobody has any imagination, and they CGI things that we already know. It should do as surrealism does - give something totally bizarre and new an edge of familiarity, so we can relate and either get creeped out or feel at home.
But no-pe. All we want to see is Robots, Aliens and Spaceships. Please.

I think sometimes CG can be good. Like with the Matrix, the story and setting was great, and the cg was also great. Of course it's a matter of opinion... I think Tarantino is one of the best directors ever, based on Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. But I also loved the Matrix, and many other CG-heavy movies... so there.

EDIT: *100th POST YEAH!!*

CGI won't kill the art form nor will it replace real live actors, doesn't tarantinos new movie use a lot of CG? or what the fuck was i looking at, either way lucy lu sucks. that azn chick on the view is hotter than her

i agree with him though, CGI has been over done to shit, it holds no grounds anymore, i couldn't stand the bullshit of matrix, it's one thing to be used in real fashion and good taste but its another to fucking just blow it out of proportion, if you're not going to use it for real like scenerios then just go straight fucking ahead and declare it as sci-fi

matrix sucks, fucking neo.

If Kill Bill's any indication, Tarantino's going to murder the cinematic artform. Jesus, who thought it would be a good idea to make some ditzy white chick a samurai opposite Lucy "can't act for shit" Liu? AND A ONE EYED DARRYL HANNAH. Jesus.

CGI in film can either be a blessing or a curse, but it's just like any other tool, like lighting or a good tear in the right moment down an actor (or actress's) cheek.

The main problem arises when CGI effects are over-used to the point where they overshadow the rest of the film. The Matrix: Reloaded for example. While the plot of the Matrix is a good one, it seemed like Reloaded rushed along the story sequences to get to more exciting action and CG effect scenes, when they should have been concentrating on other things.

CGI won't break the film industry, as Tarantino predicts, but it may usher in a new age. Allready movies are becoming more and more involved, the public audience taking on more of a roll in them. My opinion is that sooner or later, some nifty Star Trek shit is gonna start showing up, with the holodecks and fully-interactive computer-generated movies. I can't wait for that, lemme tell ya.

Sounds like a damn good porn film to me.

Using a computer you could do all sorts of kick ass stuff but they always fail. I like zombies but they still managed to fuck that up, a sock soaking in a bag of watered down ketchup beats some of the bullshit zombies I've seen.

Kill Bill doesn't use CG, but there's mega film editing, due to all the wires and crap. Besides, just because there's one actor that needs help acting doesn't mean the movie is crap. Just look at that kid in Unbreakable and The Patriot. I hate his fucking guts, but that doesn't mean those movies are crap.

I assume you hate Star Wars as well, right? ;)

Not a big fan of the new Star Wars movies, no. But in the old days, CGI didn't exist, that's what made Star Wars so great. George Lucas basically created Star Wars in his basement with his homies, some plaster of paris and an old shoe.

With no laces. That's hardcore.

Uma Thurman kicks so much ass... However, the only movie I've seen with Daryl Hannah (I'm not counting Charlie Sheen movies) is Mermaid, so I can't comment on her...

But anyway, I'm happy to see Uma in another movie.

No, Mr. Research, he was using all the "cutting edge" techniques and effects, for the time.

That's the thing with QT, he fails to realize that CG has revolutionized Hollywood. (And maybe Bollywood, but who's counting?)

Thanks to Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, we can have unbelievably cool sci-fi movies. It's the usage of it. I mean The Hulk? Episode I and II? Can't we use that money to better humanity?

What's a good comparison? Using CG is like abusing a glitch in a game. You use it every now and then just for the hell of it and everything's "a'ight". However, if you abuse it all the freaking time, you're a fucking retard.

Plaster of paris and an old shoe WERE cutting edge back then, it would be another three years before they came out with duct tape and sliced bread.
